Regional Energy Plan - A major program in 2019 included development and coordination of a wind project in the YK Delta. The project will involve installing wind generation and energy storage in Kwethluk, Alaska. The intent of the project is to decrease energy costs for the community, decrease dependence on fossil fuels, increase resilience, and off-set diesel consumption.

Energy Program Coordinator / CEMAI - This program started in 2018, initiated from a partnership with Calista Corporation on their Calista Energy Management Assistance Initiative (CEMAI) program. The program offers energy technical assistance to YK Delta communities by request, energy education in the form of residential energy use surveys, and aggregated data collection to help inform leadership on community-wide energy use. The intent of the program, overseen by the Energy Program Coordinator, is to build energy capacity in tribal communities of the YK Delta.

Utility Fin Mgt Training - In coordination with the purpose of the CEMAI program, Nuvista managed the implementation of Utility Financial Management Training session, funded in large part by the Association of Village Council Presidents. The training opportunities were open to all Utility Managers and Bookkeepers of Tribally-owned utilities in the YK Delta and featured three days of training to improve QuickBooks utilization and reporting requirements.

FORM 990, PART I, LINE 1: Nuvista's mission is to achieve a more resilient and connected region while empowering our communities with access to affordable, sustainable energy infrastructure.
FORM 990, PART III, LINE 1: Our mission is accomplished through several energy-focused initiatives, including: regional and community energy planning, feasibility studies, energy education, and energy infrastructure projects. All projects are completed alongside non-profit and Tribal entities in the Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta region of Alaska. Our work is intended to help villages, tribes, and remote communities in western Alaska become sustainable and self sufficient through the realization of decreased energy costs and energy independence.
FORM 990, PART III, LINE 2: A new program started on December 6, 2019, the Organization entered into a memorandum of understanding with Kwethluk, Inc. for the purpose of achieving the various aims and objectives relating to the Kwethluk Wind & Storage Project. As part of this understanding, the Organization will utilize existing funding from the State of Alaska and obtained funding from the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Indian Energy for the development of a wind project in the YK Delta, and the purchase and installation of battery storage in Kwethluk. In December 2019, the Organization entered into an agreement for a complete Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in the amount of $836,460. In February 2020, the Organization entered into an agreement to pursue wind generation with the goal of helping reduce dependence on fossil fuels not to exceed $4,243,000.
FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4d: Other Program Services: Alliance for Sust. Energy - The ASE program was implemented in Kwethluk, Alaska as a continuation of a Department of Energy/National Renewable Energy Lab program to perform Level 1 energy audits in homes in Kwethluk, Alaska and provide recommendations to homeowners on energy and money saving opportunities. Nuvista managed community outreach and site visits. DOE - Nuvista launched a grant-funded effort to bolster the wind project in Kwethluk by purchasing a battery energy storage system that will be installed in the power plant. The purpose of the battery is to improve the economics of the Kwethluk wind project, provide improved energy resilience in the event of power outages, and reduce consumption of fossil fuels.
