FEATURED ACTIVITIES INCLUDED: A FLOWER BASKET SALE BENEFITTING THE CORVALLIS-UZHHOROD SISTER CITIES PARTNERSHIP; SATURDAY MORNING FARMERS MARKET INFORMATION BOOTH; A PRESENTATION AT OREGON STATE UNIVERSITY ON WATER RESOURCES IN ETHIOPIA; A UKRAINIAN DINNER EVENT. - CONTINUATION OF AN "ADOPT-A-ROAD" CLEAN-UP PROGRAM WHEREBY CSCA VOLUNTEERS CLEAN UP A SPECIFIED STREET THREE TIMES A YEAR. A SIGN LISTING THE CSCA'S PARTICIPATION IN THE PROGRAM WAS INSTALLED ALONG THE STREET. SPECIFIC ACTIVITIES: CORVALLIS HAS TWO SISTER CITIES, ONE IN UZHHOROD, UKRAINE (IN EFFECT SINCE 1991) AND THE OTHER IN GONDAR, ETHIOPIA (IN EFFECT SINCE 2005). THESE SISTER CITY RELATIONSHIPS ARE COORDINATED BY THE CSCA - UZHHOROD COUNCIL AND THE CSCA - GONDAR COUNCIL. THE TWO COUNCILS ARE ACCOUNTABLE TO THE CSCA BOARD OF DIRECTORS AND MEMBERS. UZHHOROD PROGRAMS: CSCA-UZHHOROD COUNCIL IS AN AWARD-WINNING ORGANIZATION WITH OVER TWENTY- FIVE YEARS OF EXPERIENCE HOSTING OPEN WORLD, USAID AND CSCA-U SELF-FUNDED DELEGATIONS. CSCA-U HAS AN EXTENSIVE HISTORY OF RECIPROCAL DELEGATIONS WITH ITS SISTER CITY OF UZHHOROD, UKRAINE. MUCH OF THE ACTIVITY BETWEEN THE TWO CITIES HAS FOCUSED ON ADVOCACY AND VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT. CSCA-U HAS PROVIDED SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNTS OF ADVOCACY TRAINING AND SEMINARS TO ASSIST UZHHOROD VOLUNTEERS IN THE AREAS OF HEALTHCARE DELIVERY, ORPHANS, ROMA, WOMEN, AND ADULTS AND CHILDREN WITH PHYSICAL AND/OR MENTAL DISABILITIES NEW PRACTICES AND APPROACHES TO VOLUNTEERISM, AS WELL AS ADVOCACY AND THE DELIVERY OF SERVICES. MANY CSCA-U MEMBER GROUPS AND INDIVIDUALS FREQUENTLY TRAVEL TO UKRAINE AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE TO CONTINUE EXISTING PROJECTS AND TO EXPLORE NEW OPPORTUNITIES. THE TOUCH PROJECT (TAKE ONE UKRAINIAN CHILD'S HAND) IS A SPONSORSHIP PROGRAM FOR UKRAINIAN CHILDREN. THE TOUCH PROJECT HAS GROWN TO INCLUDE FIVE SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMS FOR OVER 400 CHILDREN AND IS A FRIENDSHIP PROGRAM, NOT AN ADOPTION AGENCY. NEARLY 300 DELEGATES HAVE TRAVELED FROM THE U.S. TO UKRAINE SINCE 2001 AS PART OF AN ANNUAL TOUCH DELEGATION TO HELP THESE CHILDREN IN VARIOUS WAYS. THESE VOLUNTEERS TRAVEL AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE. DELEGATION MEMBERS MEET AND VISIT WITH THE CHILDREN, TAKE THEM SHOPPING FOR SCHOOL CLOTHES, ON OUTDOOR EXCURSIONS AND HIKES, AND TO MOVIES, MUSEUMS, PARKS, AND CULTURAL EVENTS. SPONSORSHIP FUNDS BENEFIT THE CHILDREN IN MANY WAYS INCLUDING EDUCATIONAL SUPPORT AND OPPORTUNITIES, FACILITIES REPAIR, FOOD & CLOTHING AND HEALTH CARE. OTHER CURRENT UZHHOROD PROGRAMS INCLUDE THE OPEN WORLD DELEGATION. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 29 | GONDAR PROGRAMS - CONDUCTED THE 9TH ANNUAL CORVALLIS-GONDAR WALK FOR WATER AT THE BENTON COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS THAT RAISED APPROXIMATELY 2,000 FOR CONSTRUCTION OF DRINKING WATER WELLS IN GONDAR. - FUNDED THE CONSTRUCTION OF ONE DRINKING WATER WELL IN GONDAR - PARTNERED WITH THE CHILDREN PARTICIPATING IN VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL AT ST. ARMY CATHOLIC CHURCH WHO CHOSE WALK FOR WATER AS THEIR GIVING PROJECT FOR THE SUMMER AND RAISED 598 TO SUPPORT WELL CONSTRUCTION IN GONDAR. - FUNDED THE PLANTING OF 45,000 TREES IN THE ANGEREB WATERSHED, GONDAR'S SOURCE OF DRINKING WATER. - ADDED 1,000 TO THE REVOLVING LOAN PROGRAM. FIVE MORE FAMILIES WERE ADDED TO THE PROGRAM BRINGING THE TOTAL TO 30 FAMILIES. - HOSTED A VISIT TO CORVALLIS BY TEKEBA TEBEBAL, MAYOR OF GONDAR. HE TOURED THE CITY: MET WITH MAYOR TRABER; SPOKE TO THE CITY COUNCIL; VISITED LINCOLN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL; TOURED OSU; AND SPENT TIME IN SOME OF OUR CITY PARKS. - HOSTED THE CULTURAL AWARENESS DINNER, "A TASTE OF ETHIOPIA" IN JANUARY. APPROXIMATELY 250 GUESTS ATTENDED. THE DINNER RAISED MORE THAN 2,500 FOR OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMS. THE SPEAKER WAS INVITED JANE KURTZ, AN OREGON AUTHOR WHO GREW UP IN ETHIOPIA, TO BE GUEST SPEAKER AT THE TASTE OF ETHIOPIA DINNER IN JANUARY 2018. MS KURTZ SPOKE ABOUT HER CHILDHOOD IN ETHIOPIA AND THE PUBLICATION OF BILINGUAL EARLY CHILDHOOD READERS THROUGH HER NON-PROFIT COMPANY, OPEN HEARTS BIG DREAMS. - FACILITATED A PROJECT WITH MS. KURTZ AND WILSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL 5TH GRADERS TO DRAW ILLUSTRATIONS FOR A SET OF BILINGUAL CHILDREN'S BOOKS SET IN GONDAR, ETHIOPIA. 75 CHILDREN PARTICIPATED IN THE ART PROJECT, TO DRAW ILLUSTRATIONS FOR TWO NEW EARLY READERS: "THE GLORY OF GONDAR- AND "GONDAR CITY OF KINGS". THE TWO BOOKS WILL BE DISTRIBUTED IN GONDAR BY LINK ETHIOPIA, OUR NGO PARTNER IN GONDAR. THE CHILDREN'S PICTURES WERE DISPLAYED AT NEW MORNING BAKERY IN DECEMBER 2018. - COOPERATED WITH LINK ETHIOPIA TO DEVELOP A PROPOSAL TO THE US EMBASSY FOR A GRANT TO FUND THE DEVELOPMENT OF AN EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION PROGRAM IN SABIA SAINA VILLAGE. THE GRANT WAS RECENTLY APPROVED AND 12,000 AWARDED TO LINK. - CONTRIBUTED 10,000 TO THE FUND TO BUILD A KINDERGARTEN IN SAINA SABIA VILLAGE, A LONG TIME PROJECT PARTNER OF THE WATER AND WATERSHED WORK GROUP. THE KINDERGARTEN IN THE VILLAGE WILL SERVE AN ESTIMATED 100 CHILDREN. |
