What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? To develop and provide positive and innovative events and social service programs for youth and their families to achive empowerment and purpose
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Throughout 2019 we provided programs, projects and events for youth and their families no matter where they come from or what they identify as. Our mission is "To develop and provide positive and innovative events and social service programs for youth and their families to achieve empowerment and purpose," and like we say..."If you've got a pulse, you've got a purpose." Our goal at CFF has been to provide our members and community with a platform to develop and/or discover their purpose, to give them the tools and connections they need to succeed, and to support them not only to shine but to thrive as educated and empowered members of our beautiful Long Beach Community. The 2019 programs, events and projects that we produced or co-produced are below: California Families in Focus incorporates the Social Emotional Learning ("SEL") model in each of our three multi-tier programs where we work with the mothers, teenagers and their siblings. SEL is the process through which children and adults acquire and effectively apply the knowledge, attitudes, and skills necessary to understand and manage emotions, set and achieve positive goals, feel and show empathy for others, establish and maintain positive relationships, and make responsible decisions. Our multi-tier SEL Program(s) include: 1. The VIP Mentoring Program which focuses on teens ages 13-19 and prepares them to be ethical and socially conscience leaders. This year we focused on group mentoring and guided youth from Poly High School, Jordan High School, Renaissance High School, CSULB and Youth Members of CFF through the educational system and gave them a platform to identify and showcase their skills and talents. Activities ranged from providing internship opportunities to teaching them how to run the day-to-day activities at our CFF headquarters, Youth Dream Center and community outings. We also provided them with educational workshops on topics such as self-esteem, higher education, bullying and suicide prevention, drugs and alcohol, gangs, and being of service. In addition, we guided them on how to organize, coordinate and produce our "I Matter 2 Youth Fashion Show" and our annual Spirit of Christmas. We taught our youth the value of volunteering and partnerships by sending them to various events that our community partner organizations produced such as the Mental Health America Gala, the Absolute Best of Long Beach Awards Gala, South Coast Chorale concerts, Federacion de clubes Unidos por Guerrero, Long Beach Coffee and Tea, the ILWU thanksgiving dinner giveaway and Christmas toy distribution, Long Beach Camerata Singers Concerts, the L-Project Women's Freedom Festival, International Imperial Courts of Orange County and Long Beach fundraisers, and many other community events. One major highlight was to empower and prepare one of our Poly Trans students to request gender neutral restrooms not only at her high school but also schools throughout the city of Long Beach. We also supported her by attending a district meeting at the high school with various stakeholders and encouraged her to address the LBUSD Board to appeal to them for approval of the gender-neutral restrooms. 150 youth were impacted by all CFF's activities. 2. The AMPD Program which focuses on the VIP teen's siblings ages 5-12 where we utilize Art, Music, Poetry and Dance as tools for communication, self-expression and healing. This year we had over 25 youth participate in this program. The youth attended 12 sessions of classes ranging from anger management, yoga and meditation, to the power and benefit of art therapy, music therapy and dance therapy. Youth reported having learned a tremendous amount of positive ways to express themselves and communicate with their parents. The parents reported an increased participation from their children in areas ranging from helping with household chores, increased homework production, effective communication and overall increased positive attitudes. It was inspiring for us to also witnessed the progress of the youth from the time they joined the program until the day they graduated. 3. Familia Y Fortaleza (Family and Strength)- A Parenting Program which focuses on the Mental Health and Overall Wellness of the mind, body and spirit. We work with the family unit so they all work together and understand the importance of each role and succeed together. This year the Familia Y Fortaleza Parenting program accepted 20 Latina women to participate in a mental wellness program provided by the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health where they attended a 12-session series with topics such as mental illness, addiction, childhood trauma, abuse, molestation and rape and others. They also learned about self-esteem and how to use art, music, and dance therapy along with yoga and meditation to overcome anxiety and heal past trauma. Each participant had a graduation ceremony at the end of the program where they received certificates of completion and invited their family to a cap and gown graduation celebration. 2019 Events: April 6, 2019 - Dress for Success event-Translatina Coalition & Transgeneros Unidas- This conference was designed to enlighten trans allies and empower the trans community. We will not only help shed light on this resilient community, but we intend to continue our efforts to provide opportunities and safe spaces for our trans community to gather, learn and strengthen themselves. The conference participants learned how to dress for interviews, write resumes, and how to engage in a positive and productive job interview. Each participant received 2-3 brand new outfits. We had 200 attendees. June 6, 2019 - I Matter 2 Anti-Bullying and Suicide Awareness Youth Fashion Show-We selected teams of youth from different Long Beach High Schools and provided them with a set of rules and instructions, a sewing machine, $200 for sewing materials, a runway walking coach and mentors who provided advice and encouragement up until the day of the fashion show. The winning team was awarded a trip to New York where they had the opportunity to attend New York Fashion week and go backstage to meet the designers and the models. We had over 200 attendees. November 13, 2019 - Kimberly Maddox Youth Scholarship - CFF gave out scholarships to Long Beach youth who have volunteered at our office or our events, and who are on their way to becoming ethical and socially conscious leaders. This past year we gave a total $8,000 in scholarship funds. December 22, 2019 - The Spirit of Christmas - CFF produced a one-day event for women and children living in drug rehab, domestic violence and homeless shelters during the holidays. At this event our special guests received food, toys, Christmas gifts, pajamas, toiletries, gift cards, empowerment, encouragement, entertainment was provided by Carla Adkins, Aquilah Ali form Freedom Through Healing, 15 members from South Coast Chorale, Sabreena, Mia, Nolan and Randy from Long Beach Imperial Court, photos with Santa, arts and crafts, face painting and more. The children enjoyed Santa's workshop where they created personalized jewelry and cards that they give to their mother on Christmas day as a gift created just for them. Tracy Fuentes was our M.C. and did a phenomenal job. We had over 700 attendees. 2019 Projects: Padrino Project: Thadeo Miguel & Johnny Martinez made magic happen by providing a young lady living in a domestic violence shelter a full graduation gown, shoes, purse, jewelry, hair piece, professional makeup session, hair styling and nails. The young lady was able to attend prom and graduation looking and feeling beautiful and empowered. Makeup Artist Certification Training: After their graduation the mothers from the Familia y Fortaleza parenting program qualified to attend a free Makeup artist certification project lead by Lori Smith of L Studio Makeovers, a CFF member and professional model, photographer and stylist. 8 women were certified as a professional makeup artist and were able to book appointments and make extra money to make ends meet. Backpack and school supply distribution for Jordan High: CFF entered into a community partnership with Renewal by Andersen and helped coordinate an employee campaign for the employees of Renewal by Andersen to pay it forward by donating, assembling and dropping off 70 backpacks full of school supplies and high-end electronic equipment for the youth at Jordan High School to have everything they needed to succeed in school and stay focused on their education. Long Beach Gives: A 24-hour fundraiser for over 80 nonprofits throughout the Long Beach region. CFF was selected as one of the organizations to be highlighted and to raise funds for Anti-Bullying and Suicide Awareness. Our goal was to raise $2,000 and we met our goal. A Zumba-thon for dreamers sponsored by Councilmember Dee Andrews: CFF partnered with Councilmember Dee Andrews to host a Zumba-thon that would help raise funds for the Kimberly Maddox Yout
