What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? THE PRIMARY AND SPECIFIC PURPOSE OF UNITED FLYING CLUB, INC. IS TO PROVIDE ITS MEMBERS WITH A MEANS TO OBTAIN, AT COST, THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENGAGE IN PLEASURE AND RECREATIONAL FLYING IN MUTUALLY OWNED AIRCRAFT, AND TO PROVIDE, AT COST, INSTRUCTION (USING CLUB INSTRUCTORS) IN PLEASURE AND RECREATIONAL FLYING OF GENERAL AVIATION AIRCRAFT. THE CLUB WAS ORIGINALLY INCORPORATED IN 1947 AND REORGANIZATION OCCURED IN 1992. THE CLUB REMAINS A NON-PROFIT CORPORATION IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA. MEMBERSHIP IN THE ORGANIZATION IS RESTRICTED TO EMPLOYEES OF UNITED AIRLINES AND THEIR IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBERS; THAT IS MEMBERSHIP IS NOT OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC.

28 ORGANIZATION MEMBERS ARE PROVIDED WITH THE OPPORTUNITY TO FLY MUTUALLY OWNED GENERAL AVIATION AIRCRAFT FOR PLEASURE AND RECREATIONAL USE. FACILITIES ARE PROVIDED FOR MEMBERS TO MAINTAIN THE AIRWORTHINESS OF THE AIRCRAFT AS PRESCRIBED BY FAA GUIDELINES. MEMBERS ARE ALSO GIVEN ACCESS TO FLIGHT INSTRUCTION BY CLUB MEMBERS TO MAINTAIN OR IMPROVE THEIR FLYING PROFICIENCY, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE OF FAA RULES AND REGULATIONS. ONLY CLUB MEMBERS, WHO ARE FAA-QUALIFIED INSTRUCTORS, MAY GIVE INSTRUCTION. IN ADDITION TO INSTRUCTION, THE CLUB PROVIDES PROGRAMS RELATED TO GENERAL AVIATION AND SAFETY THRU PERIODIC SEMINARS.
