Then I received a notification that I had not filed the return, still not realizing that the form was to be filed online this year. I sent a copy of the completed paper form again in the mail along with the response form with the notice. I recently received a letter stating it was for educational purposes only about the new electronic filing requirements. As I looked into it further, I realized that the form should have been submitted electronically this year. This will be the third attempt to submit the return all be it the first correct attempt I suppose. An exception on the penalty for late filing would be greatly appreciated since it was an oversight and the paper form was submitted by the due date. I understand now that the paper format will not be accepted, but I ask for grace for the first offense. The future form 990's will be submitted online by the due date in the future.
