| FORM 990, PART I, LINE 1 | DESCRIPTION OF ORGANIZATION'S MISSION OR MOST SIGNIFICANT ACTIVITIES: BY PROVIDING END-TO-END CAPABILITIES IN CGMP BIOMANUFACTURING EXPERIENCE AND CLINICAL RESEARCH SUPPORT. GENCURE FOCUSES ON REGENERATIVE MEDICINE THROUGH THE TEXAS CORD BLOOD BANK, A BIOMANUFACTURING FACILITY, AN APHERESIS CENTER AND A DECEASED DONOR TISSUE BANK. |
| FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A - PROGRAM SERVICE: | In 2019, Gencure Tissue Center created new partnerships with select, high-quality tissue processing organizations to increase the speed from recovery-to-transplant. Efficiencies were gained by consolidating family service functions with a key local donation partner to streamline and improve examiners. This refocusing on Gencures core strengths of donor recovery service has, and will continue to, increase tissue donation opportunities for the local community and improve transplantation outcomes. The GenCure Biomanufacturing Center (GBC) addressed a critical need in the regenerative medicine industry by completing an MTEC contract to develop an 80L bioreactor that enables the scale-up production of mesenchymal stem cells. GBC also expanded its biomanufacturing space by installing 6,700 square feet of clean-room production space and a 2,500 square-foot process development lab in a CGMP-compliant, manufacturing facility. The expansion allows GBC to further support researchers and organizations developing potential new lifesaving therapies. The Texas Cord Blood Bank provides cord blood collection and banking services to moms that wish to donate their babys cord blood. Banked units are shipped to transplant centers to be used as life-saving units for treatment of patients with blood disorders such as leukemia or lymphoma. For 2019, a total of 1,038 units were collected, 129 units were banked, 287 units were made available for research and development and 10 units were shipped for transplant. In addition, in 2019, the new birth tissue donation program of the Texas Cord Blood Bank provided 804 placentas to its processing partners to be used as grafts for treatment of injuries such as burns and diabetic foot ulcers. In 2019, the Center for Apheresis and Therapeutic Services added 7,455 new donors to the Be The Match Registry. Additionally, 407 potential donors were contacted for confirmatory typing to determine if they were the best match for a patient in need. This resulted in 72 life-saving transplants for patients varying in age from only a few months to over 70 years old and from countries all around the world. |
