Everything we do is in service of strengthening community by ensuring that every individual - regardless of his or her ability to pay - can learn, grow and thrive. We believe that there are endless opportunities to connect and enrich lives while addressing critical societal needs and, in doing so, we transform lives in meaningful ways. Greater Somerset County YMCA has a profound and enduring impact in the community by serving over 33,000 children, teens, adults and seniors through programs and services that help them to achieve health in spirit, mind and body. Throughout our 145+ year heritage, we have remained committed to strengthening the community by investing in our kids, our health and our neighbors. With a legacy of being a catalyst for change and a community leader that enhances the well-being of all, the Y has become a trusted and respected cornerstone of the community. Greater Somerset County YMCA has an Endowment with cash and pledges of $3.67 million. Additionally, in 2019, we raised $1,046,170 through our annual fundraising campaign, plus $109,904 through special events and $103,294 in non-governmental grants. The funds ensure that all deserving children, families and adults are provided access to Y programs and services regardless of their ability to pay, and also enable the Y to respond to new and emerging community needs. At Greater Somerset County YMCA, our organization's success is rooted in a steadfast commitment to the highest standards of nonprofit excellence. In 2019, we proudly received two prestigious awards. The North American YMCA Development Organization (NAYDO) recognized Greater Somerset County YMCA with the Eagle Award for excellence in philanthropy, and the Somerset County Business Partnership recognized Greater Somerset County YMCA with the Economic Vitality Award. ENSURING ACCESS TO ALL In 2019, Greater Somerset County YMCA provided over $1,700,000 in community program support and direct financial assistance with funds raised through our Annual Campaign, Special Events, Grants and Operational Surplus. Of those funds, nearly $1,050,000 was used to provide direct financial assistance to more than 360 deserving individuals and families to ensure participation in YMCA programs. The rest of the funds were used to support free or low-cost community outreach programs like Special Olympics, Saturdays in Motion, Career Forum, and a wide array of teen and senior citizen programs and services. In 2019, we were grateful for the support of 2,043 donors to the Annual Campaign. FOR YOUTH DEVELOPMENT With Youth Development as a key area of focus for our organization, Greater Somerset County YMCA offers more than 300 different programs that help young people of all ages to develop the skills and characteristics necessary to thrive. All of our youth programs are designed to promote our core values, to deepen family connections and to inspire children and teens to realize their full potential. FOR HEALTHY LIVING From the beginning, our YMCAs have provided health and fitness programs as an integral part of our mission. The list of programs and services is quite extensive and includes a robust variety of fitness opportunities such as group exercise classes, personal training, swimming and yoga, as well as stress, weight and nutrition management. Every wellness offering is designed with the overarching goal of promoting a healthy balance of spirit, mind, and body that improves overall well-being. Our wellness programs offer members an opportunity to enjoy and participate in a community that is based on the development of healthy behaviors and relationships. From beginner fitness to nutrition to adult sport leagues to programs designed to help individuals with chronic diseases, all individuals have the opportunity to pursue healthy activities and lifestyles, which contribute to a healthier community. We believe that when we all work together with shared passion and common purpose, we can enhance our collective quality of life and deepen community impact. As an organization committed to social responsibility, we offer direct financial assistance to financially insecure individuals and families, and we offer free or low-cost, mission-based programs that meet community needs. It is in large part due to the contributions of volunteers that we are able to deliver on our cause of strengthening the community. Additionally, Greater Somerset County YMCA engages with a broad array of community stakeholders to maximize the well-being of county residents through collaborations and partnerships.
