Briefly describe the organization’s mission: SWAMC's mission is to be a regional membership organization that advances the collective interests of Southwest Alaska people, businesses, and communities. SWAMC helps promote economic opportunities to improve quality of life and influence long-term responsible development. SWAMC serves three sub regions of Southwest Alaska; the Aleutians/Pribilof, Bristol Bay, and Kodiak. SWAMC was formed out of the common interests of the region encompassing the Aleutians East Borough, the Aleutians West Census Area, the Bristol Bay Borough, the Dillingham Census Area, The Kodiak Island Borough, and the Lake and Peninsula Borough.

Explanation

Part X : FIN48 Footnote

SWAMC is a nonprofit corporation exempt from income taxation under Section 501(c)(4) of the Internal Revenue Code. Although the organization is exempt from federal income taxes, any income derived from unrelated business activities is subject to the requirement of filing Federal Income Tax Form 990T and a tax liability may be determined on these activities. The organization had no income derived from unrelated business activities as of June 30, 2019. SWAMC classifies all interest and penalties related to tax contingencies as income tax expense. As of June 30, 2019, there are no accrued interest or penalties related to tax contingencies or uncertain tax positions. As of June 30, 2019 there were no uncertain tax positions or unrecognized tax benefits for which management believes it is reasonably possible that the total amounts of tax contingencies will significantly increase or decrease within 12 months of the reporting date. SWAMC files tax returns in the U.S. Federal Jurisdiction and the State of Alaska. As of 2019, the tax years that remain subject to examination begin with 2016.

Form 990, Part III, Line 3: Ceased Conducting or Significant Changes To Services	Effective December 31, 2018, SWAMC voluntarily withdrew as the Manufacturing Extension Partnership agency for the State of Alaska. The MEP program was a Federal program administered by the Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology to assist in manufacturing in Alaska. SWAMC provided the program on a statewide basis and the Board decided that SWAMC's limited staff need to concentrate on regional economic development priorities.
