| CORE FORM, PART III; STATEMENT OF PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS | Shes the First is a global organization that has a presence in 21 countries. We find, fund, and support solutions that not only educate and empower girls but also strengthen communities where those girls are able to flourish. Our programs and funding directly impact 11 countries and we have an advocacy presence in 10 more. Here is a breakdown of our reach - Our network of partners includes 12 local organizations in 5 regions, where we provide flexible funding for girls programs along with additional training and advocacy opportunities. This network reaches 9,500 girls. Our trainings for mentors and educators have reached 75+ local organizations who work with more than 11,000 girls. In 2020, well reach 45 more grassroots organizations who in turn reach more than 5,000 girls. Our campus chapters are student-led and focused on advocacy for local and global issues faced by women and girls. This network includes 200+ chapters across the globe consisting of 5,000+ individuals. We know that the best way to make real progress is to team up with inspiring local organizations fighting on the frontlines in communities where educated and respected girls are the exception, not the norm. Our partners are our equals, and we work with them every day to see to it that the girls in their communities are - Educated. In addition to helping more girls to enter and graduate from high school, we ensure they learn about sexual and reproductive health and receive crucial life-skills training. Respected. We train educators and mentors to design programs around the needs of the most vulnerable girls in their community and run policy and behavior change campaigns to challenge practices that violate girls rights, from child marriage and FGM, to pregnant girls being forced to leave school. Heard. We put girls at the center of everything we do. We build advocacy campaigns around priorities that they identify, put them on stage at our trainings, and amplify their voices across every platform we have. Special 2019 Programming Achievements - In April 2019, we hosted the third annual Girls First-East Africa Summit, our flagship professional development event, with our partner Akili Dada in Nairobi, Kenya. After the Girls First Summit, more than 66 percent of organizations reported that they have adapted or created new initiatives, based on the trainings they received, to better incorporate girls voices into their program. An additional 33 percent report that they have plans to do so in the future. 88 percent of organizations created or updated their child protection policies to better protect girls, which will benefit more than 9,600 girls. - For the International Day of the Girl on October 11th, we launched the Global Girls Bill of Rights with worldwide attention. This declaration of the rights all girls are entitled to, written by girls, for girls generated 150M+ media impressions and girl leaders presented it at the UN twice, to the Deputy Secretary-General and to the head of UN Women. - We hosted the 8th Annual STF Summit, which provided hands-on advocacy training to 150 students representing our 200 campus chapters within 15 U.S. states, India, Canada, Nepal, and Guatemala. |
