| Form 990, Part III, Line 4d: Other Program Services Description | OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: SCHOLARSHIPS - Assistance League Glendale awarded twelve $1,500 scholarships to high school seniors or continuing college students. The scholarships were based on community service, school leadership and grade-point average. The scholarship recipients were honored and publicized through our website and local newspapers. Because of the COVID-19 virus, the usual award luncheon in June was cancelled. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Adopt A Family - Through the Adopt a Family program the Assisteens auxiliary of Assistance League Glendale provided thirteen families from the YWCA Battered Women's Shelter with Christmas gifts and credit cards so they could choose what they needed to have a better holiday - from food to clothes or gifts. 13 FAMILIES SERVED. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: Desi Geestman Foundation - City of Hope - During the year the Assisteens Auxiliary of Assistance League Glendale served over 100 children in the pediatric ward at the City of Hope by providing a special pajama party for the pediatric Patients. Holiday gifts, assembled by the Assisteens, were provided to families in the pediatric ward. OVER 100 CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES SERVED. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: ASCENCIA SHELTER FOR THE HOMELESS - Members of Las Caritas and Assisteens, auxiliaries of Assistance League Glendale,provided meals for 1,350 residents of the homeless shelter in Glendale, including dinners and weekend breakfasts. This is a guest-chef program that allows groups such as Assistance League to prepare the food we bring to the shelter and serve it to the always changing population of 40 to 50 residents. In addition, Assistance League Glendale helped residents with special needs when in transition, moving out of Ascencia to their own residence, by providing various housewares and provided clothing for residents in need of appropriate wear for job interviews. During the Holiday Season, Assistance League provided gifts for the children in residence and provided hygiene kits for 100 non-residents seeking assistance from the shelter.After March because of the COVID-19 virus, our members contributed meals but did not serve them. The shelters staff and residents took over that task. 1,450 homeless served. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: VOCATIONAL TRAINING PROGRAM - The Assistance League Glendale Thrift Store provided the venue four mornings each week for vocational training for 9 young adults with physical and mental disabilities under the tutelage of the staff of the Tierra del Sol Foundation. The students developed confidence as they learned various skills needed to work in a retail store, including how to move merchandise, sort and hang clothing, arrange clothing on racks, move stock to display shelves, and purge oldmerchandize from the racks. In addition, the students had the opportunity to increase their social skills and self-esteem while interacting with volunteers from the Assistance League in a congenial and safe environment. Because of COVID-19 virus, the Thrift Store closed in March. 9 disabled students served. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 9: GUSD Healthy Start Food Bank - Assistance League Glendale provided monthly donations of up to $250 of food delivered to the GUSD Healthy Start food bank for 300 needy families to come and select what items they need for their own households. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 10: COMMUNITY OUTREACH - The Assisteens provided instruction and materials for arts and craft sessions to 100 children at the YWCA summer camp. Members from Assisteens enlivened the day for over 50 seniors residing at Windsor Manor, a retirement and assisted living home with monthly game nights. The Assisteens also gave small gifts to the patients in the nursing section of the facility to lighten the isolation of being in a hospital situation. Due to the COVID-19 virus, the Windsor Manor program was halted in March 2020. 150 people served. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 11: OTHER OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 12: WELCOME HOME - Welcome Home is a pilot program to provide essential household items to families leaving Ascencia,a Glendale homeless shelter. Family members have found a job, secured housing, and paid the first month's rent on their apartment. The laundry basket contains dishes, cups, glasses, utensils, pots and pans,towels and soap which helps families start life in their new home. 15 people served. |
