| FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A | IN 1998, TCRC BEGAN OPERATING AN AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM TO PROVIDE A SAFE AND AFFORDABLE PLACE FOR CHILDREN TO GROW AND LEARN DURING CRITICAL AFTERSCHOOL HOURS. THE TCRC BRIGHT FROM THE START LICENSED AFTERSCHOOL AND SUMMER PROGRAM (ASP) SERVES STUDENTS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 4 - 12 YEARS. THIS AFTERSCHOOL AND SUMMER PROGRAM IS FUNDED PRIMARILY THROUGH DONATIONS, PARENT FEES, AND THE CHILDREN AND PARENT SERVICES PROGRAM (CAPS). LOW WEEKLY RATES ENSURE THAT QUALITY SERVICES ARE AFFORDABLE TO LOW-INCOME FAMILIES. TCRC CURRENTLY SERVES 77 STUDENTS WITH ACADEMIC SUPPORT, TUTORING, HOMEWORK, ARTS PROGRAMS THROUGH THE SOUTH GEORGIA BALLET IN THE STEP UP PROGRAM, VOLUNTEER INSTRUCTOR FROM THE FSU SCHOOL OF DANCE, AND VOLUNTEER TUTORS FROM THE MAGNOLIA SCHOOL ALUMNI ASSOCIATION. STUDENT ENROLLMENT INCREASES TO 90 IN THE SUMMER. TCRC HAS HAD THE GREAT PLEASURE TO OPERATE AS A 21ST CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTER (21ST CCLC) PROVIDER SINCE 2008. EXTERNAL CONTRACTORS EVALUATE ALL 21ST CCLC PROGRAM SITES. QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE DATA IS COLLECTED TO MEASURE PROGRAM IMPACT AT EIGHT SITES IN THOMAS, MITCHELL AND GRADY COUNTIES. THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF THE OUTCOME EVALUATION IS THE EXAMINATION OF THE EXTENT TO WHICH THE 21ST CCLC ACHIEVED THE PROJECT OBJECTIVES. THIS OPPORTUNITY HAS ALLOWED THE ORGANIZATION TO EXPAND ITS AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM WITH THE OVER-ARCHING GOAL OF IMPROVING ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT, BEHAVIOR, AND INCREASING PARENTAL INVOLVEMENT. THE SITES ARE GRANT FUNDED WITH TCRC AS A "SUB-RECIPIENT" TO THE GEORGIA DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION. THIS YEAR OVER 400 CHILDREN FROM K - 6TH GRADE WERE SERVED AT THE 8 SCHOOL-BASED 21ST CCLC LOCATIONS. CERTIFIED TEACHERS AND PARA-PROFESSIONALS PROVIDE ACADEMICS AND HOMEWORK HELP. PROJECT BASED LEARNING ACTIVITIES ARE PROVIDED BASED ON SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, ARTS, AND MATH (STEAM). EFFECTIVE THE 2019 SCHOOL YEAR WE WILL BE SERVING STUDENTS IN THOMASVILLE AND MITCHELL UNDER THE 21ST CCLC GRANT AS A RESULT OF A FUNDING DECREASE. OUR GOAL IS TO RECOVER THE FUNDS FOR FY20 SCHOOL YEAR. THE INTRODUCTION OF THE DIVISION OF HUMAN SERVICES - DEPARTMENT OF FAMILIES AND CHILDREN SERVICES (DHS-DFCS) AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAM, FUNDING IN 2016, PROVIDED AN OPPORTUNITY FOR TCRC TO FOCUS ON FOSTER CHILDREN, CHILDREN IN RELATIVE CARE SITUATIONS (WITH EMPHASIS ON GRANDPARENTS RAISING YOUNG CHILDREN) AND HOMELESS CHILDREN. VASHTI IS A SUMMER ONLY ENRICHMENT PROGRAM THAT SERVES 30 STUDENTS ON THE VASHTI RESIDENTIAL CAMPUS. THE DHS FUNDING GIVES US AN OPPORTUNITY TO SERVE CHILDREN IN RURAL CITIES IN THOMAS COUNTY WHERE THERE IS NO TRANSPORTATION. WE SERVE 30 STUDENTS AT THE VARNEDOE STREET LOCATION AND 20 AT THE HAND IN HAND ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. THE TCRC PARENT-CHILD HOME PROGRAM (PCHP) WORKS TO CLOSE THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP BY GIVING LOW-INCOME PARENTS THE TOOLS, SKILLS, AND ENCOURAGEMENT TO PREPARE THEIR CHILDREN FOR SCHOOL SUCCESS. USING BOOKS AND EDUCATIONAL TOYS, THAT ARE GIFTS TO THE FAMILY, TRAINED HOME VISITOR'S MODEL READING, PLAY, AND CONVERSATION ACTIVITIES IN FAMILIES WITH CHILDREN FROM 1 TO 3 YEARS OF AGE. PCHP IS AN EVIDENCE-BASED EARLY LITERACY, PARENTING, AND SCHOOL READINESS MODEL ESTABLISHED IN 1979. THE PROGRAM INTERACTION GIVES THE PARENT AN OPPORTUNITY TO GAIN CONFIDENCE AND RECOGNIZE THEY ARE THEIR CHILD'S FIRST AND MOST IMPORTANT TEACHER, AS WELL AS ENGAGE THE CHILD IN EARLY LITERACY. IF DEVELOPMENTAL DELAYS ARE OBSERVED, TCRC REFERS TO "BABIES CAN'T WAIT", GEORGIA'S STATEWIDE, INTERAGENCY, SERVICE FOR INFANTS AND TODDLERS. WE SERVE 5 FAMILIES PER YEAR. WE HAVE COMPLETED A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE THOMASVILLE AND THOMAS COUNTY SCHOOL DISTRICTS L4 INITIATIVE TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF HOME VISITORS AS WELL AS PURCHASE BOOKS AND EDUCATIONAL TOYS FOR THE CHILDREN PARTICIPATING IN THE PROGRAM. WE WILL SERVE 60 FAMILIES IN 2019 AS A RESULT OF THE PARTNERSHIP. WE WILL SERVE 15 FAMILIES IN GRADY. PRE-K 3: OUR PRE K-3 PROGRAM IS A DAY FILLED WITH FUN, LEARNING, AND LAUGHTER. EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON EDUCATING THE WHOLE CHILD THROUGH A DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE, MULTI-SENSORY APPROACH TO INSTRUCTION. STUDENTS LEARN IN THE CLASSROOM AND OUTDOORS THROUGH GUIDED LESSONS AND PLAY DESIGNED TO PROMOTE EXPLORATION, CREATIVITY, AND SOCIAL INTERACTION. PARENT ENGAGEMENT: WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE MNW BOYS & GIRLS CLUB, THE GATHERING PLACE AND SEVERAL CONCERNED CITIZENS AND ORGANIZATIONS IN THE COMMUNITY DELIVERING THE REZILENT KIDZ PROGRAM RAISING HIGHLY CAPABLE KIDS. A POWERFUL AND LIFE CHANGING TRAINING FOR PARENTS IN OUR COMMUNITY. RAISING HIGHLY CAPABLE KIDS IS A 13-WEEK CURRICULUM THAT IS BASED ON THE SEARCH INSTITUTE'S 40 DEVELOPMENTAL ASSETS. SEARCH INSTITUTE HAS UNDERTAKEN DECADES OF RESEARCH WITH MORE THAN 5 MILLION CHILDREN AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE 40 BUILDING BLOCKS EVERY CHILD NEEDS TO GROW AND MATURE. AND THE MORE OF THESE ASSETS A CHILD HAS IN HER LIFE, THE MORE LIKELY SHE IS TO ENGAGE IN HEALTHY BEHAVIORS WHILE VEERING AWAY FROM THOSE THAT ARE UNHEALTHY. THE TCRC PROGRAM WITH BE DELIVERED TO 20 PILOT PARENTS IN 2019 . |
