| THE DEPOT IS A PUBLIC TREASURE TO THE TOWN OF DAYTON, WASHINGTON. THE TRAIN DEPOT WAS DONATED TO THE ORGANIZATION ON MAY 23, 1975 BY THE UNION PACIFIC RAILROAD. THE DEPOT HAS BEEN IN EXISTENCE SINCE 1880 AND IS THE OLDEST SURVIVING RAILROAD STATION IN WASHINGTON STATE. IT WAS LISTED ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES IN SEPTEMBER, 1974. AS A RESULT, THE DAYTON HISTORIC DEPOT SOCIETY ENJOYS STRONG PUBLIC SUPPORT. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 200 MEMBERS AT THIS TIME FROM THE GENERAL PUBLIC WITH A BROAD, REPRESENTATIVE GOVERNING BODY. THE ORGANIZATION HOLDS EVENTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR TO ATTRACT ADDITIONAL PUBLIC SUPPORT AND IS OPEN TO THE GENERAL PUBLIC. SYLVIA ATTENDED THE AASLH'S "REINVENTING HISTORIC HOUSE MUSEUMS" WORKSHOP IN WASHINGTON, D.C. IN JUNE. RESULTING FROM INFORMATION GAINED AT THE WORKSHOP A COUPLE OF NEW, SMALL EXHIBITS WERE CREATED IN THE BOLDMAN BASEMENT AND THE MASTER BEDROOM. THE BOLDMAN HOSTED "YOGA IN THE GARDEN" IN JULY AND AUGUST, A ONCE A WEEK, YOGA PRACTICE FOCUSING ON GENTLE STRETCHING AND BALANCE. THE 1934 CHEVROLET MASTER DELUXE TOOK PART IN THE WAITSBURG CAR SHOW AND ALL WHEELS WEEKEND WHERE IT WON A SECOND PLACE TROPHY FOR 1930S ORIGINAL CAR. THE BOLDMAN WAS PART OF THE HISTORIC HOME TOUR IN OCTOBER, WITH 62 VISITORS COMING THROUGH THE HOUSE. AN EMBROIDERED AND PIECED QUILT FROM A PATTERN IN OUR COLLECTION HAS BEEN ASSEMBLED AND WILL BE RAFFLED OFF DURING "LADIES NIGHT OUT 2020." TICKETS ARE 5.00 EACH AND WILL BE AVAILABLE AT THE DAYTON HISTORIC DEPOT OR THE BOLDMAN HOUSE MUSEUM OR FROM MEMBERS OF THE BOLDMAN HOUSE MUSEUM STEERING COMMITTEE. |

WE INSTALLED A NEW HEAT PUMP AT THE DEPOT LAST WINTER. IT HAS HELPED KEEP OUR VISITORS, VOLUNTEERS, AND EMPLOYEES A LITTLE BIT WARMER ACCESSION WORK IS CONTINUING. IT TAKES A GREAT DEAL OF TIME, BUT THIS PAST YEAR WE HAVE HAD A VOLUNTEER HELPING TO COVER THE FRONT DESK WHILE OUR EMPLOYEE WORKS BEHIND THE SCENES, SO WE HAVE MANY MORE ITEMS ACCESSIONED. THROUGHOUT 2019'S TOURIST SEASON, WE HAVE HAD THE EXHIBIT "BECOMING HISTORIC DAYTON" HANGING IN OUR WAITING ROOM AND TICKET OFFICE. VISITORS HAVE BEEN FASCINATED BY THE PROCESS DAYTON WENT THROUGH TO BECOME THE BEAUTIFUL LITTLE TOWN THAT IT IS TODAY. THE DEPOT HAD AUTHOR THOMAS HILLEBRANT VISIT IN MARCH TO TALK ABOUT THE RAILS ON THE PALOUSE. HE FOCUSED ON WALLA WALLA AND DAYTON FOR HIS TALK, AND IT WAS A GREAT SUCCESS THE DEPOT IS CARING FOR ONE OF DOWNTOWN DAYTON'S EMPTY STOREFRONTS. BE SURE TO CHECK OUT OUR DISPLAYS AT 238 E. MAIN ST. WE PUT THE NEW PUMP CAR IN RR TRACKS PARK ON THE RAILWAY FOR ALL WHEELS WEEKEND. IT WAS A SMASHING SUCCESS WITH YOUNG PEOPLE. YOU SHOULD WATCH THEM FLY DOWN THE TRACKS EVENING AT THE DEPOT WAS A HUGE SUCCESS THIS YEAR, THANKS TO OUR MEMBERS AND OUR COMMUNITY WHO NEVER FAIL TO SUPPORT US AS A RESULT OF DONATIONS FROM OUR MEMBERS AND FRIENDS, OUR ENDOWMENT HAS GROWN THIS YEAR TO NEARLY 300,000. WE APPRECIATE ALL OF YOU WHO THOUGHTFULLY GAVE A GIFT TO HELP MAKE THE DEPOT SELF-SUSTAINING. THIS YEAR'S HOME TOURS WERE EXCEPTIONAL. WE HAD FOUR BEAUTIFUL HOMES ON OUR TOUR, AND OUR VISITORS WERE DELIGHTED BY THE DIVERSITY AND QUALITY OF EACH OF THEM. WE HAVE RECEIVED OVER 12,500 IN GRANTS DURING 2019. | FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4C | THE NEWLAND/PIONEER CEMETERY WAS CREATED IN 1863 WHEN J.H. NEWLAND DONATED FIVE ACRES OF HIS HOMESTEAD TO THE COMMUNITY OF DAYTON. LOCATED ON A HILL WEST OF TOWN, THIS CEMETERY WAS THE FIRST DEVELOPED EAST OF FORT WALLA WALLA IN WASHINGTON TERRITORY. THE AMERICAN LEGION HAS CONTINUED TO HELP US CARE FOR THE CEMETERY. THEY MOWED AND HELPED WITH WEED CONTROL THIS YEAR. WE HAVE HAD FOUR GRAVE MARKERS RESTORED. ONE OF THEM WAS ACTUALLY BROKEN INTO TWO SECTIONS, AND THE RESTORATION WORK PUT IT BACK TOGETHER, AND IT NOW STANDS TALL. WE WILL CONTINUE THE RESTORATION WORK FOR THE NEXT SEVERAL YEARS. WE HAVE CLEANED ALL OF THE GRAVE MARKERS, MAKING THEM EASIER TO READ AND RESTORING THEIR BEAUTY. |
