| Pt III, Line 31 | 2019 Program Service Accomplishments Continued |
| Pt III, Line 31 | (Quilt Story Road Show) lecture and quilt/quiltmaker documentation day services to these guilds in 2019: Lake County Quilters Guild, Tavares, Florida; Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild, Boone, North Carolina |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Membership booth at National and Local Quilt Shows: Quilt Alliance staff and volunteers demonstrated projects and promoted membership at booths at the QuiltCon consumer quilt show in Nashville, the Asheville Quilt Show, the NC Museum of History's Quilt-In Day, and the International Quilt Festival in Houston. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | National Quilting Day: The Quilt Alliance co-sponsors National Quilting Day each March and in 2019 we held our first in-person kick-off event. The National Quilt Museum in Paducah, Kentucky served as the venue for the event. A new tradition of naming an Honorary Threader was started with the QA's Amy Milne receiving the honor of threading a giant wooden needle! |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Grants: In November 2019 Quilt Alliance staff applied for funding from the Robert and Ardis James Foundation and the Coby Foundation. The James Foundation grant request for $47,083 was awarded to support a 2-year project that would create a QSOS podcast and modify our Quilt Story Road Project to a regional model. The Coby Foundation request was for $27,000 to support educational and exhibition components of the Quilters Take Manhattan event. (In Q1 of 2020, the QA was awarded a $10,000 grant award to support the transitioned event --Quilters Take a Moment.) |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Go Tell It at the Quilt Show! Seventh anniversary of this project to document and share stories of quilts where quiltmakers gather. The formula for Go Tell It! is simple: one person talking about one quilt in front of one video camera for three minutes. Demonstrated the project at Quilt Story Road Show events during the lecture portion of the program and recorded multiple Go Tell It! videos at each stop. By the end of 2019, 679 Go Tell It! recordings were available for users to watch on the Quilt Alliance YouTube channel. 146 Go Tell It! recordings were uploaded in 2019. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Quilters S.O.S. - Save Our Stories (QSOS) celebrated its 20th anniversary by continuing the transfer of QSOS interview records to the new project website (www.QSOS.QuiltAlliance.org). Partners at the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky continued digitizing the interview records originally recorded on cassette tapes. The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress will remain a partner on the project and continue to house the physical archives of the collection. The QSOS collection was legally gifted to the Nunn Center in December 2018, but the partnership stipulates that the QA will continue to manage the project, which will continue to be branded as a Quilt Alliance project. A QSOS Sponsorship fundraiser was launched in December 2018 with underwriting offered to supporters at $25/interview. By the end of 2019, over 600 interviews had been sponsored with approximately 600 still to fund. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Archived/inactive projects: |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Quilt Treasures: Oral history based "web portraits" document the lives, work, and influence of leaders of the American quilt revival of the 1960's and 1970's. This project is a joint project of the Quilt Alliance, MATRIX: The Center for Humane Arts, Letters and Social Sciences Online at Michigan State University and the Michigan State University Museum. Only minor activity occurred again with this project in 2017-answering requests and directing inquirers to a few of the videos available via Youtube. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | The Quilt Index: This online repository provides access to documentation and digital images of individual quilts held privately or in public institutional collections. An estimated 64,000 quilts are accessible through the Quilt Index. The Quilt Index (www.quiltindex.org) This project is a joint project of the Quilt Alliance, MATRIX: The Center for Humane Arts, Letters and Social Sciences Online at Michigan State University and the Michigan State University Museum. The Quilt Alliance did not played a very minor role in the Quilt Index project in 2019, answering infrequent emails. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Boxes Under the Bed: This now-archived project was designed to educate the public about the importance of identifying, preserving, and making accessible the archives and ephemera of quilt history. Project resources include visual examples of the types of ephemera you might expect to find with your quilts, a how-to guide on how to document and inventory your quilt ephemera, and tips for how to share these treasures. |
