| FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION | THE SOUTHERN MINNESOTA AREA ASSEMBLY (SMAA) REPRESENTS AND SERVES OVER 1,050 AA GROUPS LOCATED THROUGHOUT SOUTHERN MINNESOTA. DURING 2019 THE SMAA HELD 2 SIGNIFICANT WORKSHOPS FOR ITS MEMBERS: THE RECOVERY, UNITY, AND SERVICE, CONFERENCE (RUSC), AND THE TRUSTED SERVANT LEADERSHIP TRAINING (TSLT). THE RUSC IS A WEEKEND-LONG EVENT, INTENDED TO GIVE AA MEMBERS AND OPPORTUNITY TO SHARE INFORMATION AND EXPERIENCE ABOUT PARTICIPATION IN AA'S SERVICE STRUCTURE IN SOUTHERN MINNESOTA. THE TSLT IS A ONE-DAY WORKSHOP TO PROVIDE TRAINING TO MEMBERS WHO HAVE VOLUNTEERED TO HOLD A SERVICE POSITION IN EITHER SMAA, OR IN THEIR LOCAL AA COMMUNITY OR GROUP. DURING 2019 WE PURCHASED AND STAFFED AA INFORMATION BOOTHS AT THE FOLLOWING EVENTS: THE LABOR, HEALTH, AND BENEFIT FAIR, THE MINNESOTA SOCIAL SERVICES ASSOCIATION CONFERENCE AND EXPO, THE MINNESOTA ASSOCIATION OF RESOURCES FOR RECOVERY AND CHEMICAL HEALTH (MARRCH), THE MINNESOTA ASSOCIATION OF DEAF CITIZENS' "DEAF AWARENESS DAY,- AND FOR THE FULL TWO WEEKS AT THE MINNESOTA STATE FAIR. DURING 2019 WE SENT ONE REPRESENTATIVE TO EACH OF THE FOLLOWING NATIONAL CONFERENCES: THE BRIDGING THE GAP WORKSHOP, TO SHARE BEST PRACTICES FOR AA OUTREACH TO INDIVIDUALS IN TREATMENT CENTERS AND CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES; THE NATIONAL ARCHIVES WORKSHOP, TO SHARE BEST PRACTICES IN PRESERVING AA HISTORICAL DOCUMENTS AT THE LOCAL LEVEL; THE NATOINAL CORRECTIONS CONFERENCE, TO KEEP US CURRENT WITH NATIONAL TRENDS IN THE CORRECTIONS INDUSTRY, WHICH IN TURN HELPS OUR LOCAL AA SERVICE ORGANIZATIONS AND MEMBERS WORK COOPERATIVELY WITH CORRECTIONAL FACILITIES. WE PARTICIPATE IN REGIONAL CONFERENCES. THERE WERE TWO IN 2019. WE SENT FIFTEEN OF OUR SERVICE VOLUNTEERS TO THE ANNUAL WEST CENTRAL REGIONAL SERVICE CONFERENCE WHERE WE DISCUSS MATTERS PERTAINING TO AA IN NORTH AMERICA.
