Briefly describe the organization’s mission: TLR works to shape policy primarily in the Texas civil justice and court system through public education, legislative advocacy and building broad public support for a fair, competent and honest judiciary as well as a fair, balanced and predictable dispute resolution system. TLR is also sometimes involved in other public policy issues related to core governmental functions. TLR benefits all citizens by working to bring public attention to important government issues and working to address difficulties, deficiencies or abuses in the Texas civil justice system.

Texans for Lawsuit Reform (TLR) engages in broad and persistent education of elected officials and the public about the Texas civil justice system including dispute resolution processes and the judiciary, and engages in legislative advocacy to improve the Texas civil justice system and, sometimes, other core governmental issues such as public education, regulations, criminal justice and administrative processes. Over the years, TLR has succeeded in increasing public awareness of key issues and of advocating for changes in legislation that benefit all citizens. Numerous legal reforms advocated by TLR have been enacted into law since TLR's formation in 1994 and TLR has engaged in public debate concerning legal issues, having gained recognition as an organization that is a major contributor to public policy discussion, formation and implementation in Texas.

Form 990, Part VI, Line 11b: Form 990 Review Process Form 990 is reviewed by the Chairman, Administrative Director and the organization's outside accountant. A copy of the form is provided to all Directors prior to filing with the IRS.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 12c: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of Conflicts The conflict of interest policy is monitored by the Board of Directors and management. Conflict of interest forms are filled out each year and reviewed by the President and the Board of Directors. The President reviews financial statements monthly and the persons doing the accounting for the organization are instructed to bring to the attention of management and the Board any financial transactions covered by the conflict of interest policy.
