What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The California Nurse-Midwives Association's mission is to facilitate the integration of nurse midwives into the health care system of California, promote legislation/regulations supportive of maternal child health and nurse-midwifery practices, and provide a forum for interaction with other groups sharing common maternal-child health goals.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 The most significant accomplishment for the California Nurse Midwives Association has been public education regarding the importance of increasing access to midwifery care for women's health. Nurse-midwifery care has been shown to decrease the rate of cesarean births, decrease costs of care, increase rates of breastfeeding, and increase patient satisfaction.Major Activities:During 2018, CNMA 1) monitored statewide, legislative efforts that involved maternal health issues, reproductive justice, &/or the role of Nurse-Midwives in California; 2) held 2 membership wide events (Lobby Day in May and the CNMA Annual Meeting in October) to promote access to nurse-midwifery care and practice; 3) sponsored our own legislation (AB2682) to remove physician supervision from the California Nurse Midwifery Act; and 4) actively engaged California stakeholders to address maternal health disparities & access to nurse-midwifery care.
