What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Opportunity America is a Washington-based nonprofit promoting economic mobility - work, skills, careers, ownership and entrepreneurship for poor and working Americans. The Organization's principal activities are research, policy development, dissemination of policy ideas and working to build consensus around policy proposals.

Other In 2019, Opportunity America made its voice heard on a number of legislative issues relating to career education: pending reauthorization of the Higher Education Act, expanding Pell Grant funding to pay for short job-focused college programs, industry-driven apprenticeship and registered apprenticeship. In July, Opportunity America held two Capitol Hill briefings for congressional staffers highlighting the findings a study of short, job-focused education and training programs offered by community colleges in partnership with employers. Earlier in the year, the organization partnered with the American Enterprise Institute to hold a lunch briefing for congressional staffers highlighting the findings of a study of policy solutions for the working class. The nonprofit also manages the Opportunity America Jobs and Careers Coalition, a group of employers and employer associations working to improve policy on workforce issues. Its core goals: amplifying the employer voice on career education and promoting skills agenda on Capitol Hill. Its legislative agenda overlaps closely with that of Opportunity America.
