THE MISSION OF THE ALICE PAUL INSTITUTE IS TO HONOR THE LEGACY OF ALICE PAUL'S WORK FOR GENDER EQUALITY THROUGH EDUCATION AND LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT. SHE WAS A LEADER IN THE FINAL PUSH FOR VOTING RIGHTS, RESULTING IN THE AMENDMENT TO THE US CONSTITUTION FOR WOMEN'S SUFFRAGE. AFTER WOMEN WON THE RIGHT TO VOTE IN 1920, PAUL TURNED HER FOCUS TO THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT (ERA) WHICH SHE AUTHORED IN 1923. SHE WORKED NATIONALLY AND INTERNATIONALLY, AFFECTING HUNDREDS OF PIECES OF LEGISLATION ADDRESSING WOMEN'S LEGAL EQUALITY. SHE LOBBIED THE US CONGRESS FROM 1923 UNTIL HER DEATH IN 1977. THOUGH THE ERA HAS YET TO BE FORMALLY ADDED TO THE US CONSTITUTION, HER LEGACY LIVES ON THROUGH THE WORK OF THE ALICE PAUL INSTITUTE.
