What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? Service Above Self is the mission of the Rotary Club of Marion. The club demonstrates this ethic by actively engaging members in community projects and endeavors that do good both locally and abroad. Established in 1939 club members have contributed significantly to the well being of the city and county by raising funds annually to distribute for worthy projects whose contributions to our community exceed expectations. The Rotary Club of Marion endeavors to fill gaps in funding by recognizing small projects and their impact within our community. The club is also committed to youth development and international support of water and wheel chair projects in developing countries.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 0202-9102 Rotary year accomplished many signature initiatives that the club either funded or contributed to in partnership with others. The club goal includes maximizing fund raising and expending same within the Rotary Year. It is not the intent of fundraising initiatives to develop a corpus and instead to disburse within the same year. The Rotary Club of Marion has consecutively received "the Best Civic Club" rating for the multiple opportunities to distribute dollars to the community benefit. In this fundraising fund disbursement cycle the Rotary Club of Marion contributed dollars to the Gateway Foundation which dollar for dollar matched a significant donation to the McDowell Food Hub. This initiative maximized dollars within our community to meet the growing food insecurity that was made worse as a result of the COVID-19 Pandemic. Additionally our club was able to leverage dollars within the Rotary district 7670 to honor veterans through the Blue Ridge Honor Flight program. The club was proud to sponsor a scholarship for a graduating McDowell High School Senior to the University of NC at Chapel Hill as well as fund a portion of a student's local Community College tuition. 2019-2020 saw the club learn to meet via telecommunication while continuing our mission to serve the greatest needs within our local community.

Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 10 The Rotary Club of Marion is a Civic Club whose primary mission is service to our local community. In the 2019-2020 year we focused our fundraising efforts on the distribution of large contributions to the McDowell Food Hub and the Blue Ridge Honor Flight. Additionally, our Marshall Dark Scholarship fund distributed an education grant to one graduating senior to the University of NC at Chapel Hill and a small grant to Asheville Buncombe Community College.
Form 990-EZ, Part I, Line 16 Dues paid to the District and Rotary international including donations assessed for Every Rotarian Every Year to the Rotary Foundation. Office expenses for paper and printing cartridges. Plaques for gifts at the conclusion of the 2019-2020 year in support of Service Above Self and Rotarian of the year. Additionally, the Other Expenses listed comprise expenses associated to our fund raising events that are not included in Rent and Publications for example carriage ride, DJ, and Entertainment expenses associated to our New Years Eve celebration for the community.
