| COVID-19 Global Pandemic | ON JANUARY 30, 2020, THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION ("WHO") ANNOUNCED A GLOBAL HEALTH EMERGENCY BECAUSE OF A NEW STRAIN OF CORONAVIRUS ("THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK") AND THE RISKS TO THE INTERNATIONAL COMMUNITY AS THE VIRUS SPREAD GLOBALLY BEYOND ITS POINT OF ORIGIN. IN MARCH 2020, THE WHO CLASSIFIED THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK AS A PANDEMIC, BASED ON THE RAPID INCREASE IN EXPOSURE GLOBALLY. THE ADVERSE ECONOMIC EFFECTS OF THE COVID-19 OUTBREAK MATERIALLY DECREASED THE YMCA'S REVENUE DUE TO THE GOVERNMENT MANDATED CLOSURE FOR NON-ESSENTIAL BUSINESS FOR A PERIOD OF TIME FROM MARCH 19, 2020 TO THE GRADUAL REOPENING BY THE END OF MAY 2020. TO MAINTAIN LIQUIDITY DURING THIS DISRUPTION, THE YMCA WAS FORCED TO FURLOUGH A SIGNIFICANT PORTION OF ITS WORKFORCE. MANAGEMENT TOOK SIGNIFICANT ACTIONS TO REDUCE EXPENSES AND DEFER PAYMENTS ON NOTES PAYABLE WITH FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS AND CERTAIN VENDORS. THE YMCA WAS ALSO AWARDED GRANT FUNDS FROM VARIOUS SOURCES IN CONNECTION WITH THE YMCA'S ONGOING EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACTIVITIES. AS OF THE FINANCIAL STATEMENT DATE OF ISSUANCE, THE YMCA HAS REOPENED TO FULL CAPACITY HOWEVER MEMBERSHIP AND PROGRAM PARTICIPATION HAS SIGNIFICANTLY DECREASED FROM PRE-PANDEMIC LEVELS. ACCORDINGLY, THE YMCA HAS ADJUSTED EXPENSES TO OFFSET THE REVENUE REDUCTION. |
