| FORM 990, PAGE 1, ITEM C | D/B/A THE CABARET |
| FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION | FOUNDED IN 1988, AMERICAN CABARET THEATRE, INC. DBA THE CABARET, IS A NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO ELEVATING AND PROMOTING THE CABARET ART FORM BY ENTERTAINING, EDUCATING, AND ENGAGING AUDIENCES AND ARTISTS THROUGH WORLD-CLASS PERFORMANCE. AS THE CABARET ATTRACTS ARTISTS FROM AROUND THE GLOBE, AUDIENCES TOO TRAVEL FROM AROUND THE COUNTRY TO SEE THESE WORLD- CLASS ARTISTS IN THE VENUE'S AWARD-WINNING UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL SETTING. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4A | NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED AS A PREMIER INTERNATIONAL CABARET VENUE WITH YEAR- ROUND ARTISTIC PROGRAMMING, THE CABARET'S ARTISTIC PROGRAMMING INCLUDES AN ANNUAL SEASON OF 40+ PERFORMANCES, FEATURING WORLD-CLASS PERFORMERS SUCH AS TONY AWARD WINNING BROADWAY STARS, GRAMMY AWARD WINNING LEGENDS IN JAZZ AND OTHER GENRES, AND RENOWNED INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS. THE ALLEY, A CASUAL OUTDOOR VENUE AND COMMUNITY GATHERING SPACE IS HOME TO A FREE OUTDOOR SUMMER SERIES FEATURING DIVERSE LOCAL AND REGIONAL ARTISTS IN THE CABARET'S OUTDOOR COMMUNITY GATHERING SPACE. THE CABARET ALSO PROVIDES BURGEONING CABARET ARTISTS-FROM STUDENTS TO PROFESSIONALS- WITH A CONTINUUM OF EDUCATIONAL AND OUTREACH PROGRAMMING TO HONE THEIR PERFORMANCE SKILLS AND PERFORM LIVE ON STAGE. SERVING AS AN ARTIST AND COMMUNITY HUB, THE CABARET SHARES IT'S STAGE WITH OTHER COMMUNITY ORGANIZATIONS AND ARTISTS (FREE OR DISCOUNTED) FOR EVENTS, MEETINGS, COMMUNITY PERFORMANCES, REHEARSALS AND RECORDING SESSIONS, AND VIRTUAL EVENT FILMING WHICH BECAME INCREASINGLY IMPORTANT IN 2020. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4D | THE CABARET'S 2020 SEASON ORIGINALLY INLCUDED 36 LIVE PERFORMANCES. DUE TO COVID-19 PANDEMIC, THE CABARET'S LAST LIVE, IN-PERSON PERFORMANCE WAS ON MARCH 8, 2020. THE LIVE IN-PERSON PROGRAMMING THAT OCCURRED FROM JANUARY TO MARCH INCLUDED: SIX PERFORMANCES INCLUDING THE BALL STATE UNIVERSITY SHOWCASE AND THREE OF THE ARTISTS BOOKED FOR THE 2020 SEASON: JOHN LLOYD YOUNG, UTE LEMPER AND JESSICA VOSK (TWO SHOWS). THE SHOWS AVERAGED 107% CAPACITY. IN ADDITION, FOUR STUDENTS PERFORMED AS PART FO THE PRE-SHOW SPOTLIGHTS. IN THE SPRING, THE CABARET SURVEYED ITS AUDIENCE AND DID A COST-BENEFIT ANALYSIS OF HAVING LIVE SHOWS AT 50% CAPACITY FOR THE SECOND HALF OF 2020. THE SURVEY REVEALED THAT MOST PATRONS WOULD ONLY BE COMFORTABLE ATTENDING INDOOR ARTS VENUES WITH A VACCINE. MOREOVER, PRESENTING SHOWS INDOOORS AT 50% CAPACITY FOR PROPER SOCIAL DISTANCING WAS NOT FINANCIALLY VIABLE. THEREFORE, THE CABARET DECIDED TO PIVOT ALL ITS PROGRAMS TO VIRTUAL FORMS AND COMPLETELY REVAMP ITS YOUTUBE CHANNEL WITH CONTENT, UTILIZING PROFESSIONALLY RECORDED ARCHIVAL PERFORMANCES. BY THE END OF 2020, 537 PERFORMANCE VIDEOS WERE LOGGED ONTO THE CHANNEL, WHICH NOW HAS 688,100 SUBSCRIBERS, 629,721 UNIQUE VIEWERS, AND 1,034,353 TOTAL VIEWS FROM ACROSS THE GLOBE. ADDITIONALLY, THE CABARET PRESENTED 6 VIRTUAL ZOOM MASTER CLASSES WITH BROADWAY ARTISTS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, SERVING 142. OTHER EDUCATION AND OUTREACH ACTIVITIES INCLUDED: NINE DIFFERENT COMMUNITY PARTNERS HOSTED 14 EVENTSS AT THE CABARET (FREE USE OF SPACE), SERVING 602. 53 BSU STUDENTS COMPLETED AND FILMED THEIR SENIOR SHOWCASES AT THE CABARET. THE CABARET PLANS TO REOPEN, PRESENTING INDOOR PERFORMANCES AT REDUCED CAPACITY ON AUGUST 12, 2021. WHEN THE PANDEMIC BEGAN, THE CABARET IMMEDIATELY ENTERED SUSTAINABILITY MODE. SIGNIFICANT EFFORTS WERE UNDERTAKEN TO REDUCE EXPENSES WHILE ALSO RAMPING UP FUNDRAISING EFFORTS TO SUSTAIN THE ORGANIZATION THROUGH THE CRISIS. THIS ENABLED THE CABARET TO END THE YEAR IN THE BLACK. |
