Cosmopolitan Lodge #872 has no control of the fund only receiving a return once a year if the fund is profitable. The endowment payment varies each year depending on the markets, etc. All earned income from the endowment fund is used for maintaining the building and for support of our charities and scholarships

Form 990, Header, Line B	A 990 return was filed in November before the due date of Nov 15, 2020. This return was mailed and we received a letter stating that it was not received and a copy was again sent. We received a letter with a fine attached and are trying a third time to submit a return. Please tell us what we need to do to be in compliance.
Form 990, Part III, Line 1	This organization is a fraternal organization that supports masonic work and charities. It also provided local scholarships to needy students in our community and supports local charities.
Form 990, Part IV, Line 10	The organization has assets in a permanent endowment fund that is controlled by the Grand Lodge of Texas and annually if the fund is profitable an amount is paid each lodge that has purchased said endowment.
Form 990, Part IV, Line 11a	A fair market amount for land, building, and equipment is listed in schedule D.
Form 990, Part IV, Line 11b	All investments for the organization are explained in VIII of schedule D. Accumulated funds were invested with Edward Jones and amounts were withdrawn from this account during the year to maintain the day to day operation of the lodge.

Form 990, Part VI, Section B, Line 11b	A copy of the form 990 is filed with the auditing committee which reviews it and reports content to general membership at a regular stated meeting and a copy is available in the Secretary's office for any person to view. There is no official process used by the organization to review the form 990 with the governing body of Cosmopolitan Lodge #872 but it has been the custom of the organization that the officers of Cosmopolitan Lodge #872 meet with the District Deputy Grand Master of The Grand Lodge of Texas before his official visit to the lodge to discuss any matters of Grand Lodge of Texas and its subordinate lodges including finances. This is done each year and the District Deputy Grand Master receives a copy of the IRS form 990 and a copy of Grand Lodge of Texas form 71 Summary of Finances for him to review and follow-up if necessary. A copy of IRS form 990 is then sent to the Grand Lodge of Texas for their files and the form 990 is filed with the IRS and auditing committee of the organization.
Form 990, Part VI, Section C, Line 19	All governing documents, conflict of interest policies, and financial statements are held in the Cosmopolitan Lodge office of the Treasurer and Secretary who will make any document that may fall under this area of concern available to any person or member making this request. A copy of the most recent Grand Lodge form 71 and IRS form 990 is posted on the bulletin board in the Secretary's office for any person to review.
