Tax Form 990 - Late Filing. Dear Sir/Madam: I am writing to request an abatement of any penalties or late filing fees that may be assessed for the filing of our Chapter's initial tax Form 990, calendar 2020, due on May 17th, 2021. I acknowledge and sincerely apologize for the late filing of our Chapter's tax Form 990. Our Chapter, Theta Chi GT (Georgia Tech) Inc., is a tax-exempt organization under the Internal Revenue Code Section 501c7. Theta Chi GT is a college fraternity (social club) supported by dues paying members in order to provide an opportunity for members to commingle, engage in personal contact, and pursue common goals and aspirations. Personally, I am the Treasurer of the fraternity and I am responsible for the ultimate filing of the tax Form 990. Our Chapter was recently granted tax-exempt status, and consequently, this is our first time filing said tax return. Moreover, such filing is required to be electronic, which resulted in additional administrative procedures including the selection of a CPA and IRS approved tax 990 software. This coupled with the school and fraternity challenges related to the Covid pandemic, led to the untimely filing. Filing procedures have now been established to ensure a timely future tax return filing.
