THE SECOND STEP LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE (SSLI) WAS ADAPTED TO A VIRTUAL EXPERIENCE FOR 2020. WE COMPLETED ONE COHORT OF SSLI, WITH 18 SCHOOL DISTRICTS FROM ACROSS THE U. S. PARTICIPATING. 2020-21 WAS THE TENTH YEAR OF THE INSTITUTE, WHICH CONVENES DISTRICT-LEVEL ADMINISTRATORS WITH THE GOAL OF SUPPORTING THEM IN LEADING SYSTEMIC, DISTRICTWIDE SECOND STEP PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION. WE CONDUCTED A VIRTUAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT SERIES IN RESPONSE TO COVID. THE SERIES PROVIDED SUPPORTS SPECIFIC TO THE ROLES OF DISTRICT AND BUILDING LEADER, COUNSELOR, AND TEACHER. WE PROVIDED 28 IMPLEMENTATION WEBINAR TITLES AND A COMMUNITY-OF-PRACTICE EVENT FOR DISTRICT LEADERS, SERVING 5,640 EDUCATORS IN TOTAL. ADDITIONALLY, OUR CLIENTS RECEIVE ONGOING IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORTS THAT INCLUDE PLANNING, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, AND CONTINUING ONLINE TRAININGS. 2. IMPLEMENTATION RESEARCH GOAL: TO DETERMINE HOW TO IMPROVE PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION FIDELITY AND TO MEASURE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF IMPLEMENTATION RESOURCES. THE CAMPAIGN INCLUDED AN UPDATED FREE RESOURCES WEBPAGE THAT FEATURED OUR RESEARCH-BASED CONVERSATION GUIDES FOR DIFFERENT DEVELOPMENTAL AGE RANGES AND GARNERED 3,698 DOWNLOADS. IN FLORIDA, CFC ADVOCATED SOCILA-EMOTIONAL LEARNING WITHIN AN ONGOING MENTAL HEALTH BUDGET APPROPRIATION. IN INDIANA, CFC ADVOCATED EVIDENCE-BASED SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING IN TEACHER PREPARATION AND FURTHER ADVOCATED ANCHORING SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING STANDARDS IN STATE POLICY. IN NEVADA, CFC ADVISED A STATE WORK GROUP ON SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING AND WORKFORCE READINESS. IN ADDITION, CFC TRACKS STATE LEGISLATION RELATED TO OUR PRIORITIES AND PUBLISHES THAT INFORMATION ONLINE. WE ALSO PUBLISH TIMELY POLICY PAPERS ONLINE, MOST RECENTLY PERTAINING TO THE PANDEMIC, MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT, AND MENTAL HEALTH.
CORE - PART III, LINE 4C 1. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT GOAL: DEVELOP AND CONTINUOUSLY IMPROVE CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE AND AFFIRMING PROGRAMS THAT EXTEND SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING INTO MULTIPLE SETTINGS. OUR INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGNERS WORKED WITH OUR RESEACH TEAM TO COLLECT AND ANALYZE FEEDBACK FROM OUR ADVISORY BOARDS, CULTURALLY RESPONSIVE TEACHING CONSULTANTS, AND CLIENTS TO DETERMINE WHICH IMPROVEMENTS WOULD MAKE THE MOST IMPACT ON THE OVERALL QUALITY OF OUR PROGRAMS. IN FISCAL YEAR 20/21 WE RELEASED A NEW VERSION OF OUR DIGITAL MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM, A PROGRAM FOR OUT-OF-SCHOOL TIME AND AN ALL-NEW DIGITAL ELEMENTARY PROGRAM. WE WILL RELEASE OUR SEL FOR ADULTS PROGRAM EARLY IN FISCAL YEAR 21/22. 2. PROGRAM IMPACT GOAL: TO INCREASE OUR PROGRAM'S IMPACT BY USING MULTIPLE STRATEGIES AND IN CONSULTATION WITH EXTERNAL EXPERTS ALONG WITH OUR INTERNAL RESEARCH TEAM. WE HAVE USED A CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT MODEL TO EVALUATE WAYS TO IMPROVE THE IMAPCT OF OUR PROGRAMS AND HAVE DEVELOPED TOOLS AND SUPPORTS TO IMPROVE FIDELITY WITH WHICH OUR PROGRAMS ARE IMPLEMENTED. 3. PARTNERSHIP DEVELOPMENT GOAL: TO BUILD PARTNERSHIPS TO EXPAND COMMITTEE FOR CHILDREN'S REACH AND IMPACT. WE WORK CLOSELY WITH OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT PARTNERS TO SUPPORT THE IMPLEMENTATION OF OUR PROGRAMS THROUGH ONGOING CONSULTATION AND TRAININGS. WE ALSO WORK CLOSELY WITH PRACTITIONERS, EXPERTS, AND RESEARCHERS IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF OUR PROGRAMS. AS PART OF OUR INTERNATIONAL OUTREACH, PARTNERS IN 16 COUNTRIES PROMOTE AND DISTRIBUTE ADAPTED VERSIONS OF THE SECOND STEP PROGRAM AND PROVIDE TRAINING AND IMPLEMENTATION SUPPORT. WE ALSO MANAGE THE LARGEST ONLINE COMMUNITY IN THE SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING SPACE ON FACEBOOK WITH OVER 10,000 MEMBERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD. WE WORK WITH CASEL, THE LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE ON CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS, AND NUMEROUS OTHER ASSOCIATIONS AND ORGANIZATIONS WORKING TO ADVANCE SOCIAL-EMOTIONAL LEARNING, BULLYING PREVENTION, AND CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION IN K-12 EDUCATION.
