| FORM 990-EZ, PART III | YOUTH EMPOWERED TO PROSPER IS ORGANIZED TO MAKE A LIFELONG IMPACT ON THE LIVES OF YOUTH WHO NEED US THE MOST AND TO DEVELOP NEXT GENERATION LEADERS WHO ARE PRODUCTIVE AND RESPONSIBLE. |
| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28 | YOUTH EMPOWERED TO PROSPER (YEP) WAS ESTABLISHED AS A 501(C)3 ORGANIZATION IN 2018 TO CREATE SUPPORT SERVICES THAT WOULD EMPOWER YOUTH IN EXCELLENCE. YEP BELIEVES THAT TO EFFECTIVELY SUPPORT UNDESERVED YOUTH IN ACHIEVING THEIR FULLEST POTENTIAL, WE MUST ADDRESS BOTH BASIC NEEDS AND SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING. AT THE CORE OF WHO WE ARE, WE SEEK TO EQUIP YOUTH TO EFFECTIVELY COPE WITH LIFE'S STRESSORS, ADAPT TO CONSTANTLY CHANGING ENVIRONMENTS, CHALLENGE RACIAL EQUITY IN ALL SYSTEMS, AND THRIVE BY USING INNOVATION, ADAPTIVE COMMUNICATION TOOLS AND A GROWTH MINDSET. YOUNG WOMEN WHO WIN IS A ONE-TO-ONE MENTORING PROGRAM THAT BEGAN IN THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR AND SERVED 20 FEMALE STUDENTS IN A TITLE ONE HIGH SCHOOL IN PALM BEACH COUNTY. THESE 20 STUDENTS MET WEEKLY WITH TRAINED MENTORS, WHO CHECKED IN ABOUT THEIR BASIC NEEDS AND PROVIDED SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL SUPPORT. FOR THE 2019-20 SCHOOL YEAR, OUR MENTOR VOLUNTEERS INVESTED 581 HOURS THAT LED TO 89% OF OUR MENTEES ACHIEVING SATISFACTORY SCHOOL ATTENDANCE, WHILE 84% OF OUR MENTEES IMPROVED EFFECTIVE COPING MECHANISMS FOR DEALING WITH STRESS AND PROBLEM-SOLVING SKILLS. PER THE NATIONAL MENTORING PARTNERSHIP, YOUNG ADULTS WHO ARE AT-RISK FOR FALLING OFF TRACK BUT HAD A MENTOR ARE 55% MORE LIKELY TO ENROLL IN COLLEGE, 78% MORE LIKELY TO VOLUNTEER REGULARLY, AND 130% MORE LIKELY TO HOLD LEADERSHIP POSITIONS. STUDENTS WHO MEET REGULARLY WITH THEIR MENTORS ARE 52% LESS LIKELY THAN THEIR PEERS TO SKIP A DAY OF SCHOOL. DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR 2019-20, MENTEES PARTICIPATED IN A COLLEGE TOUR AT PALM BEACH STATE COLLEGE AND WORKSHOPS ON TOPICS LIKE HUMAN TRAFFICKING PREVENTION AND AWARENESS OF ONLINE PREDATORS, ALONG WITH SOCIAL ACTIVITIES WITH MENTORS TO CREATE STRONGER BONDS OF TRUST. ALTHOUGH WE STARTED AS A SCHOOL-BASED MENTORING PROGRAM, ONCE THE PANDEMIC OCCURRED, WE QUICKLY TRANSITIONED THE MATCHES TO VIRTUAL PLATFORMS TO ALLOW A CONTINUITY OF SUPPORT TO OUR MENTEES. FOR THE 2020-21 SCHOOL YEAR, WE EXPECT TO INCREASE OUR POOL OF MENTEE-MENTOR MATCHES TO 25. WE HAVE ALSO EXPANDED OUR REACH TO INCLUDE MONTHLY GROUP MENTORING MEETINGS TO CREATE A SENSE OF COMMUNITY AMONG THE PARTICIPANTS WHERE THE MENTEES CAN LEARN ABOUT LIFE SKILLS THAT ARE IMPORTANT TO THEM SUCH AS COLLEGE PREPAREDNESS, LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, ETIQUETTE TRAINING, COOKING AND NUTRITION LESSONS. IN ATTEMPT TO FIGHT HUNGER AMONG THE YOUTH IN OUR COMMUNITY, YEP LAUNCHED ITS FOOD PANTRY SOON AFTER THE PANDEMIC HIT IN 2020 AND PLAYED A VITAL ROLE IN THE LIVES OF UNDESERVED FAMILIES IN PALM BEACH COUNTY. DESPITE PALM BEACH COUNTY'S WEALTH, MORE THAN 300,000 RESIDENTS, 53,000 OF WHOM ARE CHILDREN, DO NOT HAVE ENOUGH TO EAT ON A DAILY BASIS. DURING THE MONTHS OF APRIL THROUGH JULY OF 2020, YEP'S 83 VOLUNTEERS INVESTED 1,395 HOURS AND SERVED 9,430 INDIVIDUALS, PROVIDING 140,496 POUNDS OF FOOD IN LAKE WORTH BEACH. IN ADDITION, WE PARTNERED WITH PALM BEACH COUNTY TO ADDRESS FOOD INSECURITY AMONG CHILDREN THROUGH THE SUMMER BREAK SPOT FOOD PROGRAM. DURING THE FOOD DISTRIBUTION, YEP'S VOLUNTEERS UTILIZED CLIENT INTERACTIONS TO ENCOURAGE THOUSANDS OF CLIENTS TO COMPLETE THE 2020 CENSUS. YEP SUPPORTED THE COMMUNITY IN OTHER WAYS THROUGH THE DISTRIBUTION OF MASKS AND TOILETRIES TO SEVERAL TITLE ONE SCHOOLS FOR THEIR STUDENTS RETURNING TO BRICK AND MORTAR. WE ALSO HOSTED A TOWN HALL DISCUSSION ON MENTAL HEALTH FOR YOUTH IN PBC. PANELISTS INCLUDED SEVERAL STAKEHOLDERS IN THE COMMUNITY, INCLUDING PSYCHOLOGISTS, FAITH- BASED REPRESENTATIVES, ENTREPRENEURS, AND AGENCIES THAT SERVE YOUTH. IN JANUARY 2021, YEP LAUNCHED THE FUTURE LEADERS PREP COURSE, A VIRTUAL WORKSHOP THAT ENGAGES 50 UNDERSERVED YOUTH BETWEEN THE AGES OF 14 AND 22, WITH A FOCUS ON LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT, FINANCIAL AWARENESS AND JOB PREPAREDNESS. SO FAR, DYNAMIC KEYNOTE SPEAKERS HAVE PRESENTED ON DISCOVERING YOUR PURPOSE, GOAL SETTING THROUGH VISION BOARDS, PUBLIC SPEAKING, MICROAGGRESSIONS AND IMPLICIT BIAS. THE COURSE WILL COVER FINANCIAL AWARENESS TOPICS SUCH AS BANKING, BUDGETING AND ESTABLISHING CREDIT AND WILL END WITH CAREER EXPLORATION, RESUME WRITING SKILLS, PREPARING FOR AN INTERVIEW ALONG WITH INTERNSHIP AND APPRENTICESHIP OPPORTUNITIES. WE BELIEVE THAT THIS COURSE WILL DEVELOP NEW SKILLS SETS AND MINDSET SHIFTS AMONG THE PARTICIPANTS. THIS PILOT'S GRADUATION CEREMONY WILL TAKE PLACE IN JULY OF 2021. IN THE SUMMER OF 2021, WE EXPECT TO LAUNCH THE TEEN LEADERSHIP PBC PROGRAM THAT WILL BE DESIGNED FOR UP TO 30 TEENS WHO CAN MEET AT OUR FACILITY ONCE A WEEK IN LAKE WORTH. THE GOAL OF THE PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO INSPIRE THE LEADER WITHIN BY DEVELOPING 5 SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL LEARNING CORE COMPETENCIES INCLUDING SELF-AWARENESS, AWARENESS OF OTHERS, SELF- MANAGEMENT, RELATIONSHIP SKILLS AND RESPONSIBLE DECISION-MAKING. PER THE SURVEYS CONDUCTED BY HEALTHIER LAKE WORTH BEACH, AN AGENCY THAT SUPPORTS RESIDENTS IN LAKE WORTH BY BUILDING COMMUNITY CAPACITY AND IMPACTING BEHAVIORAL HEALTH, OVER 150 RESIDENTS IDENTIFIED A LACK OF CONSTRUCTIVE ACTIVITIES FOR YOUTH. WE BELIEVE THIS PROJECT WILL NOT ONLY INCREASE LEADERSHIP SKILLS TO AN EXTREMELY UNDERSERVED SOCIO-ECONOMIC POPULATION BUT ALLOW FOR NEW LIKE-MINDED FRIENDSHIPS AND CONNECTIONS AFFECTING SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, THAT ARE MUCH NEEDED IN THIS PANDEMIC ENVIRONMENT. YOUTH EMPOWERED TO PROSPER PROVIDES YOUTH WITH A JOURNEY OF GROWTH TO ACHIEVE THEIR HIGHEST POTENTIAL AND OUR PROJECTS HAVE A COMMON THREAD: TO EMPOWER YOUTH EXCELLENCE |
