| FORM 990 PART III LINE 2 | AS THE NATION RESPONDS TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC, ORANGE COUNTY UNITED WAY HAS WORKED TO RAISE MUCH-NEEDED DOLLARS FOR A PANDEMIC RELIEF FUND. THE FUND SUPPORTS: LOW-INCOME INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES AT IMMINENT RISK OF HOMELESSNESS; THE CURRENT OC POPULATION EXPERIENCING HOMELESSNESS; LOW-INCOME STUDENTS; AND OUR PARTNER NON-PROFITS. |
| FORM 990 PART III LINE 4A | EXEMPT PURPOSE ACHIEVEMENTS OF 3 LARGEST PROGRAM SERVICES: 4A. COMMUNITY IMPACT ALLOCATION POOL Every year we are doing more to ensure our students succeed, our struggling families find financial security, and our homeless neighbors find a place to call home - serving hundreds of thousands of people and delivering 50+ programs in Orange County. Our unique approach comes from an understanding that our community's most critical issues are inter-related, and we must tackle them in an interconnected way to provide long-term solutions that break the cycle. This is why we focus on three initiatives: United for Student Success - we're working to ensure children and youth receive the support they need to strengthen their literacy, stay on track in school, graduate high school on time, pursue college, and find a career. Programs: - Early Literacy programs make books available in communities where access is scarce, and encourages parents and caregivers to read aloud to kids every day to ensure children are reading proficiently by the third grade. - Destination Graduation engages, empowers, and inspires at-risk youth to finish high school on time, and better prepares them for college. - Youth Career Connections, our work-based learning initiative, helps teenagers and young adults gain invaluable career exploration and work experience with leading local employers. - Healthy Schools Initiative is an evidence-based effort that empowers schools to promote student health and wellness through physical activity, nutrition, and community-led advocacy. In turn, these healthy habits benefit the community. United to End Homelessness - with housing initiatives and advocacy, we are giving hope to families and individuals experiencing homelessness, and working to end homelessness in Orange County for good. The goal is to activate immediate and long-term housing-first solutions across our community. Empowered by Orange County United Way, U2EH is a powerful collaboration between the county's top business, philanthropic, governmental, faith-based, and non-profit leaders. Programs: - WelcomeHomeOC (a U2EH initiative program) helps house individuals and families experiencing homelessness in privately-owned apartments. United for Financial Security - we're working towards putting every person, in every community, on a path of financial empowerment through programs that focus on the most essential tools to build financial stability. Programs: - UpSkill OC, our workforce development program, is an innovative, collaborative approach to bridging the skills gap and creating pathways to jobs that pay a living wage. - SparkPoint OC promotes financial empowerment through free one-to-one financial coaching and resources to ensure families break the cycle of poverty. - OC Free Tax Prep helps families keep their hard-earned money by providing free tax preparation services for qualifying families and individuals, and identifying tax credits and refund opportunities that would otherwise go unclaimed. - Healthy Food Provision provides Orange County residents an opportunity to obtain fresh fruits and vegetables through school and community pantries and pop-up farmers' markets. Pandemic Relief Efforts - Orange County United Way also steps up to respond to the immediate needs of our community at times of crisis. With the onset of COVID-19 in 2020, we quickly established our Pandemic Relief Fund to help our community's most vulnerable. - Homelessness Prevention Program supports OC families at risk of homelessness due to a change in income caused by the pandemic. We have provided emergency assistance to 4,000+ households to help with rent, food, utilities, and other basic needs through this program. - Other Relief Efforts during this time has also included supporting the food needs of our community's most vulnerable, distributing thousands of books to children from low-income households, providing face masks and other PPE to frontline workers and students, and more. |
