    Summary of Direct Charitable Activities
    List the foundation’s four largest direct charitable activities during the tax year. Include relevant statistical information such as the number of organizations and other beneficiaries served, conferences convened, research papers produced, etc. Expenses
    1 Permaculture Education & Food Donation Activity This year, with the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, required some immediate changes in focus for Skywood Food Forest. As the Bellingham Food Bank wasn't accepting donations, Skywood made multiple donations of many varieties of food to the Birchwood Food Desert Fighters well into the fall, in addition to donating several truckloads of food plants to people in need. We were still able to host many tours, and feedback indicated that these tours were inspiring as well as educational. Furthering our own education, we attended a couple of virtual conferences, the 2020 NW Permaculture Convergence and a conference on children in permaculture. Finally, we continued to follow through on long-range plans, increasing plant diversity and adding rain water collection and storage to increase food production year round, while at the same time, providing habitat for more pollinators and other wildlife. 22,004
    2 Tutoring Low Income K-8 Children The Ciel Foundation, starting November 2020, paid for five low-income children to be tutored as often as weekly by Kara Black, the Foundation's manager. Ms. Black has a WA K-8th Teaching certification and has extensive experience tutoring and teaching children. The Ciel Foundation paid for a total of 16 sessions in 2020 for these five children who range from 8 to 13 years of age and all qualify for free lunch. The sessions mainly focused on math, but some focused also on language arts, depending on the wishes of each family.
