| PART III, LINE 4A - PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS | FISCAL YEAR END 2020 COMMUNITY CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION, INC. (CCRF) ACTIVITIES (JULY 1, 2019 THROUGH JUNE 30, 2020) - THE CANCER RESEARCH FOUNDATION RELIES ON PUBLIC CONTRIBUTIONS TO HELP OFFSET THE COSTS OF CONDUCTING CLINICAL TRIALS AND OFFERING SUPPORT SERVICES. THROUGH FINANCIAL AND RESOURCE DONATIONS OF MANY INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATIONS, THESE SERVICES HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE. IN ADDITION, THE COMMUNITY HEALTHCARE SYSTEM HOSPITALS PROVIDE FINANCIAL, IN-KIND AND PERSONNEL SUPPORT FOR MANY OF THE ACTIVITIES OF THE FOUNDATION. COMMUNITY SUPPORT: If not for our community support, it would be difficult to continue to fulfill our mission. We are thankful for the many community groups and businesses who continue to support our organization and account for a large part of our income. We have had numerous individuals and organizations hold fundraisers for our benefit and we truly appreciate their selfless efforts. In addition, the Community Foundation of Northwest Indiana and a number of its entities contribute not only monetarily, but also through the time and talents of many employees. FOUNDATION ACTIVITIES The foundation continuously seeks opportunities to educate the public and professionals about the latest in cancer care and supports clinical trials in the community so individuals diagnosed with cancer do not always have to travel to distant hospitals to receive this type of treatment. The Administrator participated in Cancer Committee for both Community Hospital and St. Mary Medical Center. The administrator also participates on the Breast Leadership Committee both at Community Hospital and St. Mary's, Chemotherapy Committee, and the Research Committee at Community Hospital, and recently invited to join the Oncology Steering Committee at St. Mary's. The Cancer Committee plans activities of the cancer program and helps maintain and improve practice standards to meet the criteria outlined by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. These committees establish continuity of care throughout the healthcare for the cancer patient and for public education and awareness. Cancer Research Department Activities/Accomplishments - Dr. Mary Nicholson will be an author for the EA1141 study results abstract; we accrued 76 patients for this study (2017). - Dr. Mohamad Kassar will be an author for the impact study results abstract; we accrued 18 patients for this study (2017). - Fall Symposium: was held for the first time in 3 years, not the best attendance however, great topic on lung prevention. Dr. Frazier, Bob Eriksen, and Sue Henry from the Indiana Department of Health were presenters. Total of 19 attended, home radon kits were handed out. - Spring Symposium: well attended by over 1100 physicians, practitioners, and staff. - Navigation has increased the number of completion of Survivorship Care Plans for COC/NAPBC accreditation. - Research Director and Breast Survivorship Navigator assisted with the Women's Diagnostic Center in their NAPBC accreditation. - Made changes toward increasing accrual for our Clinical Trials; opening new studies to increase accrual. - Increased Clinical Trial presence in the Community Healthcare System by attending Tumor Conferences, Cancer Committee, Breast Leadership Program, and the Cancer Steering Committee at St. Mary's. - Working with senior management in obtaining a Cancer Care Service Line within the Community Healthcare System now headed by Marie Macke. - Participated in outreach programs attending health fairs for colorectal screening and lung cancer screening by our navigators. 39 stool kits given out. - Outreach Coordinator for the Cancer Committee is one of our Survivorship Navigators. - All RN's assisted the Cancer Resource Centre in many activities throughout the year and served as RN support for patients/caregivers that attend the many activities at the Centre. - The COVID-19 EPIC brought a halt to the Cancer Resource Centre activities March 13th. We are currently developing a virtual forum for support groups, education and support. Growth Initiatives Cancer Research studies annual accrual 2019 calendar year - Patients screened - 525 - Patients enrolled - 12 - Patients followed - 124 - Open Protocols - 20 - March 13th - June 2 staff reduced due to Covid-19 Pandemic New Programs/Projects - Increased presence in the physicians' offices for Research RNs and Navigators again allowing patient participation in research and navigation. Open position for a second Research RN to accommodate growth. - New Navigation proposal; to bring together the vast network of services CHS has in place to the suspected or newly diagnosed cancer patient providing them with the resources that will guide them through their journey. Have a new Manager of Navigation for the Community Healthcare System. - Increase in physician interest with Northwest Oncology and Cancer Health Treatment Centers to actively participate in the clinical trials protocols that are available and assist in determining which are the best studies to open for patient participants. - Protocol Booklet for all investigator and research stakeholders. - Participate in Northwest Oncology Provider Group Meetings to discuss with the physicians the active and upcoming protocols. - Established a monthly meeting with Dr. Kassar to streamline studies and appropriateness to our patient population. - Became NSABP Foundation Member, as this will increase the number of protocols available to our patients. FUNDRAISING EVENTS Unite & Fight 2019: Major fundraiser for the Cancer Resource Centre. This event raised over $112,573. The proceeds offset the programs for the Centre. Tree Lighting Ceremony: This year's event raised over $7,000 for cancer research. Our honored guest to light the holiday trees was Susie Marcus an individual who has survived ovarian cancer and is a facilitator at the Cancer Resource Center for various groups. Fundraising Activities - Lights of Life--2019 $7,214 - Research Income FYE 2019-20 $65,878 TOTAL $73,092 During FYE 2020, we have brought new programs to the Cancer Resource Centre to meet our visitor's needs.
