| FORM 990-EZ, PART III, LINE 28, PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS: | The FBIPCAAA is a tax exempt organization under 501c 3 of the Internal Revenue Code supported by its members. The goal of the FBI Phoenix Citizens Academy Alumni Association is to foster a greater understanding of the FBIs role in the community through open discussion and to support the FBIs efforts to deliver information about their role, tools, tactics, jurisdiction, and vision for the future in national law enforcement, homeland defense, and counter-terrorism on all levels. In 2020 Jan. to Dec., the FBI Phoenix Citizens Academy Alumni Association - Hosted the FBI Bomb Squad Demo for Life Members and Alumni. This event occurred pre-COVID and was held at the FBI Phoenix Office. Collaborated with the Pima County Sheriffs Department for a Tour: The tour provided an overview of the following departments: Administration Building, Detective's Unit, Sherriff's Unit, and Forensics Unit. This was open to all Alumni and was held in Tucson. Held a Phoenix Mixer at a local restaurant to allow Alumni and FBI Office personnel to mix and mingle and develop connections for future projects. Hosted the 2020 Citizens Academy Class (Virtual Event). The FBIPCAAA Board welcomed and assisted with the new 2020 Citizens Academy Class. The cohort included the Phoenix, Tucson, & Flagstaff classes. A virtual graduation was also held where the graduates received their certificates. April - Held first virtual webinar on Online Privacy Protection, conducted by K Royal (FBIPCAAA Board Member and Legal Counsel), who is a global privacy attorney. May - Held second virtual webinar on Cybersecurity - How to handle current cyber threats conducted by Ilene Klein, Cybersecurity Program Coordinator for the City of Phoenix. Arizona Counter Terrorism Center presented a review of current cyber threats and how to prevent, detect, and respond to them to protect yourself, your family, your organization, your information and your systems. June Held third virtual webinar - An Introduction to Human Trafficking Counter-Trafficking: Jeff Tiegs, COO of The Guardian Group offered fresh insights about sex trafficking and helped the attendees gain a better understanding of the complexities of the commercial sex trafficking trade and how it has evolved and is thriving in the U.S. and how they can spot signs that youth is being victimized. Hosted Virtual FBIPCAA Awards Ceremony for FBI retirees and the Phoenix Chapter was given awards by FBI National Alumni Association for leadership and operational excellence. August Held fourth virtual webinar on Understanding Islam & Muslims conducted by Azra Hussain, President, Founder and Director of the Islamic Speakers Bureau of Arizona (ISBA). The presentation covered the culture and nature of Islam and Muslims to provide member with greater understanding of this group especially in our current climate where Islamaphobia and hate crimes are on the rise. September Held fifth virtual webinar on Kidnappings in Mexico: Ben Perez-Martinez, Retired FBI SSA provided an eye opening presentation with real world scenarios and cases of kidnappings in Mexico. With Arizonas border with Mexico, this is even a more relevant topic for the FBIPCAAA Alumni. October Held the sixth virtual webinar on Protecting yourself and those around you from online identity theft, scams, and online predators. The FBIPCAAA recognized Cyber Security Awareness month with a presentation from Jonathan Wince, Identity and Security Specialist and Erin Plese, Security and Data Compliance Analyst both from the Northern Arizona University (NAU) Cyber Security Department. Provided the Somali Center Teens in the Somali Leaders for Life Program with SAT Prep Books as part of the newly created liaison program with the Somali Center and assisted with getting mentors to prep the teens for their SAT exams. Provided volunteer opportunities for alumni at the Feed My Starving Children (November, Phoenix); McKenna Youth Foundation for packing gift and food baskets (December, Phoenix). Hosted the Annual Meeting & Signature Fall Event virtually with keynote speaker - Kenny Leahman, retired CIA Officer who spoke about the differences between the CIA and FBI and how they collaborate to protect the country from internal and external threats. Provided volunteer opportunities for alumni and logistical support for Shop with your Cops (Phoenix and Tucson). Monies raised during 2020 served to make contributions to organizations helping to fight Covid-19, sponsor food and beverage for frontliners to support their Covid-19 efforts and beef up our rainy day fund for classes, meetings, events, and mixers post-pandemic. These will ensure the organizations goal to serve the alumni members and perpetuate the F.B.I Phoenix Citizens Academy Alumni Associations mission of supporting the FBIs Community Outreach programs, improve organizational sustainability, and increase membership retention and involvement. |
