| Pt III, Line 31 | 2020 Program Service Accomplishments Continued |
| Pt III, Line 31 | (National Quilting Day)their home and post photos on social media with the tag #nationalquiltingday. We were treated to a day-long quilt show with beautiful photos of quilts hanging on palm trees in Florida to quilts on snow in Alaska and most states in between. We underscored the impact this outdoor quilt sharing could have on neighbors during such a tough year. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | (Go Tell It at the Quilt Show!) Eighth anniversary of this project to document and share stories of quilts where quiltmakers and quilt owners gather. The formula for Go Tell It! is simple: one person talking about one quilt in front of one video camera for three minutes. Due to Covid-19 safety precautions, recording Go Tell It! videos in person was not possible in 2020. We began the process of pivoting the project to a virtual program by partnering with the Chattanooga Modern Quilt Guild to record a short series of videos via Zoom. These videos were screened as part of the Quilters Take a Moment virtual event (see next paragraph). Every quilt included in the QTM exhibition featured a Go Tell It! video recorded specifically for the event. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | (Quilters Take a Moment) Quilters Take a Moment is the 2020 alternative to Quilters Take Manhattan, our biennial fundraiser typically held in the heart of New York City at the Fashion Institute of Technology. In 2020 to keep everyone safe, we presented QTM virtually, featuring spotlight speaker designer and founder and owner of Craft South, Anna Maria Horner. The event, presented via Zoom over 2 days in September 2020, also included a QSOS interview with Dindga McCannon, an octogenarian quilt artist whose work includes not only quilts but paintings, mixed media work and garments. A panel discussion featuring quilt collectors Emily Bode, Julie Silber, Merikay Waldvogel and Jack Walsh was moderated by Janneken Smucker. The final component was a virtual quilt exhibition, including antique, vintage and contemporary quilts, that took advantage of the online format to include Go Tell It! videos recorded by each quilt's loaner. View QTM 2020 You can view the 2020 QTM event recordings here using password fD825apz at https://www.qtm2020.org/attendees/. The QTM 2020 exhibition, Known & Unknown: Revealing Quilt Stories, is now open to the public here: https://www.qtm2020.org/known-unknown-exhibit/ |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Grants: On March 7, 2020 the Quilt Alliance applied for a Payment Protection Plan loan (part of the CARES act) (amount: $8,798) and successfully received funds ($10,997.50 (125% of requested amount) on June 10, 2020. The loan has been converted to a grant as outlined in the guidelines. We also received grant funds for two grants applied for in 2019 in 2020: The Coby Foundation ($10,000) for one-year grant to support QTM educational activities, and the James Foundation ($48,922) for a 2-year project grant for the podcast, QSOS and Go Tell It |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Quilt Story Road Show: this education and outreach project designed to replace and expand upon the Quilters Take Manhattan event model. QA staff provided lecture and quilt/quiltmaker documentation day services to quilt guilds, quilt shows, museums and libraries in 2019. In 2020, due to Covid-19 safety measures, we were unable to travel , so the program was paused along with all other in-person events like booths and programming at national and local quilt shows. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Quilters S.O.S. - Save Our Stories (QSOS) celebrated its 21st anniversary by continuing the transfer of QSOS interview records to the new project website (www.QSOS.QuiltAlliance.org). Partners at the Louie B. Nunn Center for Oral History at the University of Kentucky completed digitization of the interview records originally recorded on cassette tapes. The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress will remain a partner on the project and continue to house the physical archives of the collection. The QSOS Sponsorship fundraiser reached its goal of $29,975 in December 2020, made up of small and large donations from individuals and industry partners at $25/interview. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Archived/inactive projects: |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Quilt Treasures: Oral history based "web portraits" document the lives, work, and influence of leaders of the American quilt revival of the 1960's and 1970's. This project is a joint project of the Quilt Alliance, MATRIX: The Center for Humane Arts, Letters and Social Sciences Online at Michigan State University and the Michigan State University Museum. No activity occurred with this project in 2020. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | The Quilt Index: This online repository provides access to documentation and digital images of individual quilts held privately or in public institutional collections. An estimated 64,000 quilts are accessible through the Quilt Index. The Quilt Index (www.quiltindex.org) This project is a joint project of the Quilt Alliance, MATRIX: The Center for Humane Arts, Letters and Social Sciences Online at Michigan State University and the Michigan State University Museum. The Quilt Alliance played a very minor role in the Quilt Index project again in 2020. |
| Pt III, Line 31 | Boxes Under the Bed: This now-archived project was designed to educate the public about the importance of identifying, preserving, and making accessible the archives and ephemera of quilt history. Project resources include visual examples of the types of ephemera you might expect to find with your quilts, a how-to guide on how to document and inventory your quilt ephemera, and tips for how to share these treasures. |
