OUR GOAL IS TO FOSTER AN UNDERSTANDING OF AND APPRECIATION FOR THE HISTORY OF SANIBEL, TO ACT AS A RESOURCE FOR VARIOUS CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL ORGANIZATIONS AND INSTITUTIONS, AS WELL AS TO ENCOURAGE THE PRESERVATION, MAINTENANCE, AND COMPATIBLE RE-USE OF SANIBEL'S HISTORIC RESOURCES. THE VILLAGE CONSISTS OF NINE (9) AUTHENTIC, HISTORICALLY RESTORED ADMISSIONS WERE DOWN APPROXIMATELY 50% DUE TO THE COVID SHUTDOWN; THE VILLAGE WAS CLOSED FROM MARCH 17, 2020 TO SEPTEMBER 30, 2020. THE MUSEUM HOSTED MORE THAN 350 PEOPLE ON SPECIAL TOURS DURING THE SEASON. THESE SPECIAL TOURS ARE GEARED TOTALLY TOWARD EDUCATION, AGAIN FULFILLING OUR MISSION TO PRESERVE, SHARE, AND CELEBRATE SANIBEL'S HISTORY. EACH TOUR IS HOSTED BY ONE OR TWO EXPERIENCED TOUR GUIDES AND RANGES FROM 1-1/2 TO TWO HOURS. HISTORICALLY, MANY OF THESE TOURS WERE ORGANIZED BY THE ROAD SCHOLAR ORGANIZATION, WHICH CEASED OPERATIONS DUE TO COVID. THEY ARE SCHEDULED TO RESUME NEXT YEAR. APPROXIMATELY 125 VOLUNTEERS ASSIST AS DOCENTS AND HELP WITH EXHIBITS AND FUNDRAISING. THE MUSEUM OFFERED THREE TWILIGHT TALKS DURING THE SEASON WITH APPROXIMATELY 200 PEOPLE ATTENDING EACH TALK. THIS PROGRAM IS ONE OF OUR BEST VEHICLES FOR EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT HISTORY OF THE ISLAND AND THE PURPOSE OF THE MUSEUM. BY THESE TALKS, WE ARE FULFILLING OUR MISSION. THE TALKS INCLUDED: "COMMUNITY HOUSING & RESOURCES 40TH ANNIVERSARY "LOCALLY HOMEGROWN ON SANIBEL THE MUSEUM OFFERED TWO VOLUNTEER UPDATE EVENTS. THESE ARE CASUAL LUNCH-TIME TALKS FOR VOLUNTEERS AND MEMBERS AT THE 150 LEVEL OR ABOVE. IN ADDITION, OUR ANNUAL GALA HAD TO BE CANCELED, LOSING ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY TO TALK TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS ABOUT OUR MISSION. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4B | TWILIGHT TALKS - THE MUSEUM OFFERED THREE TWILIGHT TALKS DURING THE SEASON. WITH MORE THAN 200 PEOPLE ATTENDING EACH TALK, THIS PROGRAM IS ONE OF OUR BEST VEHICLES FOR EDUCATING PEOPLE ABOUT THE HISTORY OF THE ISLAND AND THE PURPOSE OF THE MUSEUM. BY THESE TALKS, WE ARE FULFILLING OUR MISSION TO PRESERVE, SHARE, AND CELEBRATE SANIBEL'S HISTORY. THE TALKS INCLUDED: 1 - A NARRATED BOAT RIDE WITH A DINNER ON THE CABBAGE KEY DESTINATION. THE 30-MINUTE FILM IS AVAILABLE IN THE MUSEUM'S STORE, AS THE TWILIGHT TALK WAS VERY POPULAR AND WE COULD ONLY ACCOMODATE 200 PEOPLE. THE FILM, THROUGH STILLS AND INTERVIEWS WITH ISLAND ICONS, EXPLORES THE HISTORY OF LODGING ON THE ISLANDS, TOLD BY THE PEOPLE WHO WERE THERE WHEN IT ALL STARTED. 3 - AN EVENT TITLED THE SANIBEL HISTORY QUIZ - JEOPARDY THIS FUN EVENT WAS MORE LIGHTLY ATTENDED THAN OUR OTHER TWILIGHT TALKS. CATEGORIES WERE DEVISED, EACH WITH A DIFFERENT TAKE ON SANIBEL HISTORY (EXAMPLE: MYTHS, PIONEERS, RESTAURANTS, ETC.). QUESTIONS WERE ASKED TO PANELS OF PARTICIPANTS, WITH WINNERS ANNOUNCED AT THE END. 4 - AN EVENT TITLED, THE HISTORY OF PERIWINKLE PARK. THIS 220-PERSON ATTENDANCE EVENT WAS SO POPULAR, PEOPLE ASKED US TO REPEAT IT THE FOLLOWING YEAR OR TO SELL VIDEOS. THE MEUNCH FAMILY, LONG-TIME OWNERS OF PERWINKLE PARK TALKED ABOUT THE FORMATION OF THE PARK, WHAT IT MEANS TO THEM TO THE HISTORY OF SANIBEL, AND MORE. SLIDES OF HISTORIC PICTURES OF THE PARK WERE PLAYED IN THE BACKGROUND DURING THE CONVESATIONAL PRESENTATION. |
