| FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION | THE NORTH CAROLINA FARMWORKERS' PROJECT (NCFP) EXISTS TO PROMOTE THE ORGANIZATION OF FARMWORKERS SO THAT THEY CAN FIND SOLUTIONS TO THEIR PROBLEMS COLLECTIVELY, TO ENCOURAGE POLITICAL PARTICIPATION AND TO GIVE FARMWORKERS THE TOOLS TO WORK TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVING CONDITIONS. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4A | THE FARMWORKER HEALTH CLINIC PROGRAM IS DESIGNED TO ENSURE THAT FARMWORKERS AND THEIR FAMILIES HAVE KNOWLEDGE OF AND ACCESS TO HEALTH SERVICES FOR ACUTE CARE, CHRONIC ILLNESS AND PREVENTIVE CARE. IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BENSON AREA MEDICAL CENTER (BAMC), CLINICS ARE OFFERED SPECIFICALLY FOR FARMWORKERS ONE NIGHT A WEEK AND A MOBILE MEDICAL UNIT PROVIDES MEDICAL SERVICES AND OVER-THE-COUNTER MEDICINES TO WORKERS AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS. NCFP REACHES OUT TO FARMWORKERS TO INFORM THEM OF THE SERVICES AVAILABLE, PERFORM BASIC HEALTH ASSESSMENTS AND EDUCATE FARMWORKERS ABOUT VARIOUS HEALTH TOPICS SUCH AS GREEN TOBACCO SICKNESS, HEAT ILLNESS, PESTICIDE SAFETY AND SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED DISEASES THROUGH INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP PRESENTATIONS. NCFP SCHEDULES APPOINTMENTS AS NEEDED AND PROVIDES TRANSPORTATION TO THE CLINICS, INTERPRETATION SERVICES, AND FOLLOW-UP VISITS TO ENSURE THAT PRESCRIBED MEDICATION AND REFERRALS TO SPECIALISTS HAVE BEEN OBTAINED. IN 2020, WE REACHED MORE THAN 2,000 FARMWORKERS IN SIX COUNTIES. WE ALSO FOCUSED ON COVID CARE, INCLUDING PROVIDING COVID-19 TESTING IN THE FIELD AND ASSISTANCE ACCESSING AUXILIARY SERVICES LIKE FOOD AND ISOLATION AND QUARANTINE HOUSING. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4C | GOTC CENSUS PROGRAM (A PROJECT OF THE FARMWORKER ADVOCACY NETWORK): IN 2020, THE FARMWORKER ADVOCACY NETWORK PARTICIPATED IN A "GET OUT THE COUNT" EFFORT TO INSURE FULL PARTICIPATION IN THE 2020 CENSUS FROM HISTORICALLY UNDERCOUNTED COMMUNITIES. WE FOCUSED ON AGRICULTURAL WORKER AND RURAL LATINO PARTICIPATION, AND DEVELOPED FARMWORKER-SPECIFIC INFORMATION ABOUT THE CENSUS, MADE PHONE CALLS TO COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO ENCOURAGE THEM TO PARTICIPATE AND TO ANSWER QUESTIONS, AND HOSTED CENSUS TRAININGS AT NETWORK MEETINGS TO ENCOURAGE OTHER ORGANIZATIONS TO PARTICIPATE. WE DISTRIBUTED MORE THAN 3,000 WATER BOTTLES WITH THE CENSUS PHONE NUMBER, ALONG WITH INFORMATIONAL BROCHURES, TO FARM AND POULTRY WORKERS ACROSS NORTH CAROLINA AND RAN A SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN TO ENCOURAGE COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO FILL OUT THEIR CENSUS FORMS. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 2, PART III, LINE 4D | WFU - THE NC FARMWORKERS' PROJECT WORKS ON PARTICIPATORY RESEARCH PROJECTS IN COLLABORATION WITH WAKE FOREST UNIVERSITY TO GATHER DATA ABOUT SUBJECTS IMPORTANT TO FARMWORKERS, INCLUDING PESTICIDE EXPOSURE, HOUSING CONDITIONS, FOOD SECURITY, AND OTHER HEALTH TOPICS. WE CONNECT FARMWORKERS TO RESEARCHERS, AND RECRUIT COMMUNITY DATA COLLECTORS TO FACILITATE INTERVIEWS AND DATA COLLECTION, AS WELL AS HELPING WITH COMMUNITY DISSEMINATION OF THE FINDINGS FROM THESE RESEARCH PROJECTS. FARMWORKER ADVOCACY NETWORK (FAN) IS A STATEWIDE COALITION THAT USES POLICY ADVOCACY CAMPAIGNS AS AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO PROMOTE LONG-TERM AGRICULTURAL REFORMS FOR FIELD AND POULTRY PROCESSING WORKERS IN NORTH CAROLINA. THROUGH FAN, A DIVERSE GROUP OF NONPROFIT, GOVERNMENT, AND WORKER ORGANIZATIONS IDENTIFY KEY TOPICS OF CONCERN TO THE PREDOMINANTLY IMMIGRANT FARMWORKER POPULATION IN NC, INTRODUCE POLICIES AROUND THESE KEY TOPICS, INFLUENCE AGENCIES TO INCREASE ENFORCEMENT OF LAWS PROTECTING THESE WORKERS, AND INFORM AND INVOLVE WORKER LEADERS AND STUDENT ACTIVISTS IN POLICY ADVOCACY CAMPAIGNS. MEMBER ORGANIZATIONS ALSO WORK ON RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF FARMWORKER ISSUES. SINCE JULY 2016, THE NC FARMWORKERS' PROJECT HAS BEEN THE LEAD ORGANIZATION FOR FAN; WE COORDINATE THE COALITION AND MANAGE FUNDS FOR THE GROUP. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 6, PART VI, LINE 11B | FORM 990 IS PREPARED BY A CPA AND DISSEMINATED TO THE BOARD CHAIR AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR PRIOR TO FILING. THEY ARE ASKED TO REVIEW THE RETURN AND PROVIDE QUESTIONS AND/OR COMMENTS. QUESTIONS ARE RESOLVED AND THE RETURN IS FILED WHEN BOTH ARE SATISFIED THAT IT CORRECTLY REPORTS THE ORGANIZATION'S ACTIVITIES. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 6, PART VI, LINE 12C | THE ORGANIZATION'S CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY IS PRESENTED TO EACH NEW STAFF AND BOARD MEMBER UPON HIRING OR ELECTION. THEY MUST READ AND SIGN THE POLICY AND A COPY IS RETAINED IN THEIR PERSONNEL FILE. THE POLICY IS REGULARLY AND CONSISTENTLY MONITORED BY THE BOARD THROUGH THEIR REVIEW AND DISCUSSION OF ANY NEW CONTRACTS WITH OUTSIDE VENDORS. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 6, PART VI, LINE 15A | THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS DETERMINES THE SALARY OF THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR ORIGINALLY BASED ON THE JOB DESCRIPTION, THE AMOUNT AVAILABLE ACCORDING TO THE BUDGET AND AN INFORMAL SEARCH FOR SALARY LEVELS OF ED'S IN COMPARATIVE NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS. EACH CHANGE IN THE ED'S SALARY IS APPROVED BY THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS. |
