| FORM 990 - ORGANIZATION'S MISSION | GIRLS ON THE RUN INSPIRES GIRLS TO BE JOYFUL, HEALTHY AND CONFIDENT USING A FUN, EXPERIENCE-BASED CURRICULUM WHICH CREATIVELY INTEGRATES RUNNING. WE ENVISION A WORLD WHERE EVERY GIRL KNOWS AND ACTIVATES HER LIMITLESS POTENTIAL AND IS FREE TO BOLDLY PURSUE HER DREAMS. |
| FORM 990 | OBVIOUSLY, THE WORLD CHANGED WITH COVID-19 IN SPRING 2020 AND OUR PROGRAMMING WAS QUICKLY ADAPTED TO MEET NEEDS WHILE SCHOOLS WERE CLOSED. ONCE WE REALIZED THAT SCHOOLS WOULD REMAIN CLOSED FOR MORE THAN TWO WEEKS, WE QUICKLY PIVOTED AND CREATED PROGRAMMING THROUGH GIRLS ON THE RUN AT HOME, COMPLETE WITH AT-HOME ACTIVITIES AND PHYSICAL MOVEMENT, FOR PARENTS AND CAREGIVERS TO DO WITH THEIR CHILDREN. THIS PROGRAMMING WAS OFFERED FREE OF CHARGE. WE ARE READY TO SUPPORT GIRLS WHO ARE FEELING ISOLATED, DISCONNECTED, AND ANXIOUS DUE TO COVID, REMOTE LEARNING, AND THE CANCELLATION OF SPORTS, EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES, MAJOR LIFE MILESTONES, AND SOCIAL EVENTS. WE ARE CURRENTLY OFFERING THREE MODALITIES DEPENDING ON SCHOOL AND DISTRICT REQUIREMENTS: 1) TEAMS MEET IN-PERSON, 2) TEAMS MEET VIRTUALLY USING A NEW ROBUST CURRICULUM DEVELOPED SPECIFICALLY FOR VIRTUAL TEAMS, OR 3) A COMBINATION OF IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL MEETINGS USING A HYBRID CURRICULUM. GIRLS ON THE RUN WILL CONTINUE TO PROVIDE A KEY SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR GIRLS THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE PANDEMIC. 1)IN-PERSON TEAMS: WE HAVE ADAPTED OUR CURRICULUM TO ALLOW FOR SOCIAL DISTANCING, HAVE LIMITED TEAM SIZES TO 10 PARTICIPANTS AND 2 COACHES, HAVE CONDENSED THE SEASON TO 8 WEEKS VERSUS 10 WEEKS, AND GIRLS AND COACHES ARE REQUIRED TO WEAR MASKS AND CONDUCT LESSONS OUTSIDE. IN ADDITION, GIRLS ARE PROVIDED PERSONAL MATERIALS AND THE NEWLY CREATED GIRL JOURNAL TO ELIMINATE THE NEED FOR SHARED MATERIALS. 2)VIRTUAL TEAMS: GIRLS ON THE RUN OF THE ROCKIES HELPED PILOT THE NEW VIRTUAL GIRLS ON THE RUN CURRICULUM OVER THE SUMMER IN ANTICIPATION OF SCHOOLS CONTINUING REMOTE LEARNING DURING THE 20-21 SCHOOL YEAR. THIS NEW INTERACTIVE, ENGAGING, AND TEAM-ORIENTED CURRICULUM WAS DESIGNED SPECIFICALLY FOR THE VIRTUAL SPACE. GIRLS INTERACT WITH PEERS AND COACHES AND GET MOVING PHYSICALLY THROUGH THE LESSON PLAN. 3)HYBRID TEAMS: THE IN-PERSON AND VIRTUAL CURRICULUM MIRROR EACH OTHER SO THAT A COACH CAN SEAMLESSLY TRANSITION FROM IN-PERSON TO VIRTUAL DELIVERY AS NEEDED. WE FELT THIS WAS IMPORTANT SO THAT PROGRAMMING CAN CONTINUE IF AN IN-PERSON TEAM NEEDED TO TRANSITION TO VIRTUAL DUE TO COVID. GIRLS ON THE RUN OF THE ROCKIES INSTANTLY ADJUSTED TO THE COVID SITUATION TO MEET THE GIRLS WHERE THEY ARE AND TO CONTINUE TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THE SUPPORT THEY NEED. WE HAVE ALREADY ADAPTED CURRICULUM, FUNDRAISING EVENTS, AND THE END OF SEASON 5K EVENT. AS WE CONTINUE AS A NATION AND COMMUNITY TO RECOVER, GIRLS ON THE RUN WILL BE THERE. WE HAVE WONDERFUL CONTACTS AND RELATIONSHIPS WITHIN SCHOOLS, DEDICATED COACHES WHO ARE READY TO COACH, AND STAFF THAT KNOWS HOW TO ACTIVATE. IT WAS A SLOW START TO THE FALL SEASON, AS SCHOOLS AND PARENTS DIGESTED WHAT THE SCHOOL YEAR WAS GOING TO LOOK LIKE, AND WE ARE CURRENTLY SERVING 500 GIRLS. HOWEVER, WE HAVE THE ABILITY TO QUICKLY REVAMP PROGRAMMING TO REACH OVER 6,000 GIRLS AGAIN EACH YEAR AND ARE CONFIDENT THAT IF SCHOOL REMAINS REMOTE OR HYBRID FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE SCHOOL YEAR, WE WILL INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PROGRAM SITES AND PARTICIPANTS IN THE SPRING 2021 PROGRAM. GIRLS NEED A SAFE PLACE TO CONNECT AND GIRLS ON THE RUN WILL HELP THEM THRIVE SOCIALLY AND EMOTIONALLY AS THE NEW NORMAL EVOLVES. |
| FORM 990, PAGE 1, PART I, LINE 6 | GIRLS ON THE RUN RELIES ON VOLUNTEERS TO MAKE THIS VALUABLE AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM HAPPEN AT MORE THAN 300 SITES EACH YEAR. VOLUNTEERS SERVE AS COACHES, SITE COORDINATORS AND 5K RACE DAY VOLUNTEERS. |
