ARTS IN THE GARDEN IS A TWO-DAY SUMMER ART SHOW FEATURING OUTDOOR GARDEN ART FROM OVER THIRTY REGIONAL ARTISTS, LIVE MUSIC AND DANCE. OVER 8,000 VISITORS ATTEND ARTS IN THE GARDEN. GARDEN D'LIGHTS FEATURES OVER A HALF MILLION LIGHTS WHICH TRANSFORM THE BELLEVUE BOTANICAL GARDEN INTO A BLOSSOMING WINTER WONDERLAND. INSPIRED BY PLANTS FOUND IN NORTHWEST GARDENS. HUNDREDS OF VOLUNTEERS WORK YEAR-ROUND TO FASHION STRINGS OF LIGHTS INTO THREE DIMENSIONAL FLOWERS, SHRUBS, AND VINES. IN 2019 GARDEN D'LIGHTS HAD 70,464 VISITORS ENJOY THE LIGHTS DURING THE 32 DAY RUN. 122 VOLUNTEERS CONTRIBUTED A TOTAL OF 5,744 HOURS TO BUILD, INSTALL, AND TAKE DOWN THE LIGHTS, AND 90 VOLUNTEERS WORKED SHIFTS DURING THE EVENT. |
| FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4C | THE BELLEVUE BOTANICAL GARDEN SOCIETY FULFILLS THE MISSION OF THE GARDEN BY DEVELOPING, MAINTAINING AND PROMOTING INTERPRETIVE PROGRAMS AND FACILITIES FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION IN GARDENING, HORTICULTURE, AND CONSERVATION RELEVANT TO THE BOTANICAL HERITAGE OF THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST. THE SOCIETY OFFERS LECTURES, CLASSES, AND TOURS FOR ADULTS. LAST YEAR, NEARLY 240 PEOPLE ATTENDED ONE OF OUR CLASSES. THE AVERAGE CLASS SIZE WAS 56 PEOPLE. ALL OF THE TOP-NOTCH LECTURES WERE WELL ATTENDED WITH AN AVERAGE OF 145 ATTENDEES PER LECTURE. BOTH OUR LECTURES AND CLASSES BECAME AVAILABLE BY VIRTUAL METHODS IN SPRING 2020. IN FALL 2019 THE GARDEN SOCIETY DOCENTS LED 27 PRIVATE TOURS FOR MORE THAN 470 INDIVIDUALS AS WELL AS PUBLIC TOURS TWICE ON THE WEEKENDS. ALL OF THE SPRING 2020 DOCENT TOURS WERE CANCELED BY MUNICIPALITY RESTRICTIONS AND SAFETY CONCERNS DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. OUR CHILDREN'S FALL 2019 PROGRAMS INCLUDE LIVING LAB, A FREE FIELD TRIP WORKSHOP PROGRAM SERVING OVER 710 STUDENTS FROM PUBLIC, PRIVATE AND HOME SCHOOLS IN K-5TH GRADES. ALSO INCLUDED IN OUR EDUCATION PROGRAMMING ARE SCOUT BADGE PROGRAMS, PRESCHOOL CLASSES, AND TOURS. SCOUT BADGE WORKSHOPS AND EVENTS SERVED OVER 88 SCOUTS IN GRADES K-8TH GRADE IN FALL 2019. OUR PRESCHOOL CLASSES SERVED 29 CHILDREN AGES 3-5 YEARS OLD PLUS THEIR PARTICIPATING ADULT THIS PAST FALL. IN FALL 2019 TOURS FOR CHILDREN INCLUDED PRESCHOOL OR EARLY ELEMENTARY GRADES WITH 99 CHILDREN PARTICIPATING. ALL OF SPRING 2020 CHILDREN'S PROGRAMS WERE CANCELED DUE TO MUNICIPALITY RESTRICTIONS AND SAFETY CONCERNS DUE TO THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. |
