The 4th production, Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, opened and closed in one night. Advance expenses of nearly $70,000 to produce the show could not be recovered. Theatre operations were brought to a halt except for crisis management which had its own expenditures: advance sales refunds; vendor penalties from early cancelations and housing deposits were lost; pay to actors and staff until furloughs and layoffs were in effect. It was quickly determined that the final show, Miracle on South Division Street, would not be produced and ticket holders were offered credit for the future or asked to forgive and donate the value of their ticket to the theatre. For the safety of our audiences the summer educational programs and community theatre events were also canceled.Marketing and attracting the new and diverse demographics of North Lee County to this intimate and unique venue for a variety of live performances at affordable ticket prices is our goal for 2020-2021 season. This will mean introducing and in time building a tradition of attending performances for many who have not had a live performing arts experience. Players Circle will continue to invest in customer relations management software and training to increase and improve our donor and audience relations. From the information sources of the areas Chambers of Commerce, Lee County Office of Economic Development, Visitors Convention Bureau Players Circle will better navigate and network in the community. Other measurements of progress will be meeting our financial goals, analyzing data from marketing results, peer and personnel interviews and reviews. Other tools are the automatic email audience survey following their attending a Players Circle performance, reviews and postings of Players Circle work. Speaking engagements and invitations to civic and social groups and schools will be offered. In the works; the space will be utilized for groups and individuals a free This n That Series focusing on area residents needs and interests and who may never have been to Players Circle This will be a way to serve the community and introduce area residents to their new art center. When it is safe or manageable, live theatre and performing arts will return. There will also be a lag time for people to return without the stigma that coronavirus has created in socializing. To maintain the space, the presence of Players Circle Art Center in the community and eventually bring back in person live performances Players Circle Art Center has pivoted to programs requiring greater public assistance. The maximum capacity with the social distancing mandate means the expenses must be reduced. It is hoped that enough ticket revenue will cover the artist fees and all other program expenses will be raised through fundraising. Players Circle has devoted this time to pursuing Federal, local and state relief grants and loans to help ride through the pandemic. At this time Players Circle is pleased to report that much of the outstanding debt related to the Covid economic injury has been retired with the funds from Federal, state and local grants and a SBA loan. |
