| Form 990, Part III, Line 2: New Services | With the growth of our "Access & Engagement" continuum of services, LYRIC split this program into two - Health & Wellness and Violence Prevention. Health & Wellness focuses on assisting youth to successfully navigate systems where they can access HIV prevention services, gender health services, and housing - LYRIC supports youth through 1:1 planning and accompaniment as well as through hosting peer-led groups. Violence Prevention focuses on prevention for LGBTQQ+ youth to build the skills for healthy relationships, intervention supports for youth experiencing intimate partner violence, family violence or community violence, and leadership development for youth who are interested in the field. LYRIC provides violence prevention services to youth at our facility, in the community, and within the juvenile and adult justice systems. LYRIC's School Based Initiative grew its program by adding a summer bridge program for middle students called "Camp SparkleX and added additional staffing to support 1:1 work with students during and outside Q Group meeting times. |
| Form 990, Part III, Line 3: Ceased Conducting or Significant Changes To Services | LYRIC continued all of its service components as well as its policy/advocacy efforts in support of LGBTQQ+ youth. However, with the beginning of shelter-in-place requirements in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, all of LYRIC services successfully transitioned to virtual formats. Maintaining connection to community and continuing to receive supports to access basic needs has been critical for LYRIC's youth and young adults. |
| Form 990, Part III, Line 4d: Other Program Services Description | OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 4: Policy & Advocacy - LYRIC's Policy and Advocacy program addresses the institutional barriers that negatively impact LGBTQQ youth: exclusion of LGBTQQ youth perspectives from civic debates, lack of LGBTQQ-inclusive data and research, and fragmented resource networks. Through our advocacy efforts, LGBTQQ youth and adult allies inform key decision-makers about the issues impacting LGBTQQ youth's lives and communities. Through our high level research partnerships, we identify and disseminate cutting edge practices that advance the field of LGBTQQ youth development. Through our coordination of an interagency service collaborative, we leverage a wide range of resources - housing, primary care, behavioral health, workforce development, educational services - that provide LGBTQQ with the holistic support that they need to thrive. OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 5: Sponsored Projects - The Organization acts as fiscal sponsor for various unincorporated groups whose activities are aligned with LYRIC's mission. Sponsored projects include the Budget Justice Coalition (a collaboration of over 40 community-based and labor organizations serving impoverished people working towards a City budget that prioritizes the unmet needs of the City's most vulnerable populations and poorest communities in San Francisco), the Children and Youth Fund Service Provider Working Group (a collaborative of over 25 youth-serving agencies that advises the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth, and Their Families Oversight and Accountability Commission on funding priorities, policy development, the planning cycle, evaluation design and plans, and any other issues of concern to San Francisco's Children and Youth Fund), and the Juvenile Justice Providers Association (a consortium of over 25 community-based organizations in San Francisco that meet regularly to coordinate services with each other and key justice system agencies, and work to provide a comprehensive, coordinated, and cohesive service delivery system. JJPA demonstrates that the nonprofit sector can play an important and often necessary role in cultivating systems change.) OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 6: OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 7: Health & Wellness - LYRIC has developed a highly successful TGNC Youth Health Access Program Model, which has shown previous measurable impact and utilizes evidence-based strategies to address the health disparities of TGNC youth, including: peer-led, client-centered, and gender affirming services that address complex and intersectional health-based needs in a holistic, consistent, and culturally relevant framework and navigation to connect to needed services including physical and mental health resources and housing. PrEP Navigation: Navigators conduct a comprehensive intake to identify needs and create a case plan. Navigators assist with HIV/PrEP use counseling, setting up medical appointments, insurance navigation, and regular follow ups for continued support. (Continued at Schedule O) OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES 8: Violence Prevention - San Francisco Bay Area's LGBTQQ community experiences physical violence (68%), sexual violence (48%), and harassment (81%) at high rates and many LGBTQQ survivors of violence, especially TGNC, low-income/homeless, people of color do not report violence to law enforcement or access government services. In FY1920, LYRIC provided intensive direct service support to 46 survivors and youth at-risk annually through group support, case management/wraparound support, and peer education. LYRIC and Asian Women's Shelter have collaborated for 5+ years on the City-funded LGBTQI Survivors Overcoming Violence Collaborative. LYRIC co-facilitates groups at the Juvenile Justice Center and at the County Jail in collaboration with the Young Women's Freedom Center to support LGBTQQ youth and young women of color. LYRIC community groups "What's the T?X and a "Sex Workers' Advocacy Group (SWAG)," are a safe spaces for TGNC youth to meet and support each other. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Line 8: Explanation of No Contemporaneously Documentation of Meetings | Committees do not have the authority to act on behalf of the governing body. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Line 11b: Form 990 Review Process | All board members receive an electronic or paper copy of the IRS Form 990 prior to its submission. Board members must submit any questions or changes to the Treasurer & other members of the Finance Working Group within 7 days of receiving their copy. The Treasurer will then submit changes to the Form 990 preparer. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Line 12c: Explanation of Monitoring and Enforcement of Conflicts | All current Board, Officers and Staff have on file a signed copy as to their understanding and compliance with LYRIC's Conflict of Interest Policy. At the beginning of each calendar year, all Board, Officers and Staff must reaffirm by signing a new statement that they have read and understand LYRIC's Conflict of Interest Policy and that, during the coming year, they are required to notify the Co-Chairs of the Board and/or the Executive Director immediately of their involvement, or the involvement of any of their Affiliated Persons, in any activities listed in the policy that would be considered a conflict of interest. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Line 15a: Compensation Review & Approval Process - CEO, Top Management | LYRIC's Executive Director is evaluated by LYRIC's Board of Directors annually. Board Co-Chairs lead the evaluation of the Executive Director's performance using a standardized assessment tool, soliciting input from members of the staff and board of directors. The Executive Director also completes a self assessment using the same tool. The Board Co-Chairs develop a qualitative and quantitative summary of areas of strength and areas for improvement, present a draft to the full board in Executive Session, and then meet with the Executive Director to present the findings. In response, an Individual Improvement Plan - highlighting Key Work Activities aligned to LYRIC's Strategic Priorities - is created by the Executive Director for the upcoming year and is submitted to the board for approval. Once the Annual Evaluation is complete and the new Individual Development Plan is approved, a salary adjustment is considered and approved. The basis for compensation is an organization-wide salary schedule set as a part of LYRIC's annual budget development and approval and based upon LYRIC's participation in a nonprofit compensation survey. Increases for the Executive Director salary are in-line with across the board percentage increases for all regular staff that receive successful annual reviews. Annual increases reflect 4-5% depending on position with Director positions at the 4% level. All deliberation and decisions are captured in minutes of the board of directors meetings. The most recent annual review of the Executive Director was completed in September, 2020. Executive Director compensation for the year July 1, 2019 - June 30, 2020 was approved by board vote on 08-14-19. This process last occurred in 2019-20. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Line 15b: Compensation Review and Approval Process for Officers and Key Employees | The Deputy Director is typically evaluated by the Executive Director using the same tool, however, this year amid adjustment to the programmatic and operational effects of COVID-19, LYRIC's leadership team decided to forego the typical annual evaluation process. This process last occurred in 2018-19. |
| Form 990, Part VI, Line 19: Other Organization Documents Publicly Available | Governing documents, conflict of interest policy and financial statements are available to the public upon request. In addition, the audited financial statements are posted on the organization's website. |
| Part III, Line 4a - Continuation of Program Accomplishments | Workforce Development (cont'd from page 2) - Data analyzed from 2019-20 indicates that LYRIC supported 57 youth employment placements across the continuum of paid, work-based leadership opportunities including specific job training for undocumented youth and LGBTQQ young leaders. Ninety-two percent (85%) successfully completed their placement or were in placement at program year-end. |
| Part III, Line 4b - Continuation of Program Accomplishments | Health & Wellness (cont'd from page 2) - Data analyzed from 2019-20 indicates that 551 youth accessed Navigation services, including 520 receiving PrEP Navigation services in partnership with the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. In 2019-20, 90% of participants were successfully connected to services, including 47% to needed mental health services. Gender Health: LYRIC Navigators also offer gender-affirming one-on-one and group support. Among the individual supports offered are assistance with healthcare, including scheduling and accompanying them to appointments as needed, supporting follow-up activities such as obtaining lab work, obtaining prescriptions, and adherence to medications and treatments; establishing a medical home; navigating insurance providers; and support with and through gender-affirming surgery. Group programming facilitates connection and community, and counters the disconnection, isolation & misunderstanding that TGNC youth face. Groups are designed to build and connect to community and explore topics including: Considering Medical Transition, Legal Name/Gender Marker, Dysphasia and Gender as a Construct, Relationship Values and Behaviors, Trans Representation in Media, Intimacy in TGNC Relationships, Trans Day of Remembrance, and Cross Organizational community building. Youth also take field trips to other important TGNC health and community organizations, increasing awareness/connection to resources. Housing Navigation: LYRIC has been a designated Coordinated Entry site for the San Francisco Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing since 2018 and provides housing assessments, referrals for rapid rehousing services, housing problem-solving services, case management, as well as stipends, emergency grants, and legal assistance. In 2019-20, LYRIC provided housing navigation services to 30 youth. In October 2020, LYRIC expanded our housing navigation program, in partnership with Third Street Youth Center and Clinic and San Francisco State University (SFSU), and began providing SFSU students experiencing housing instability with rapid re-housing services and wraparound support. |
| Part III, Line 4c - Continuation of Program Accomplishments | TAY Leadership (cont'd from page 2) - The LYRIC Fellowship is a paid, four-month opportunity for participants ages 18-24 to gain firsthand work experience while also deepening their understanding of social change through a healing-centered, artistic framework. Data analyzed from 2019-20 indicates that 13 youth participated in LYRIC's Artistic Resistance Fellowship Program and 85% of youth (across all workforce development programs) successfully completed their work experience. The LYRIC Mentorship Program is a stipend-based, 12-week program for 10-15 youth annually. Youth receive one-on-one support to deepen leadership skills, accomplish career goals, and connect to community resources. |
| Part III, Line I - Organization Mission | LYRIC's mission is to build community and inspire positive social change through education enhancement, career trainings, health promotion, and leadership development with LGBTQQ youth, their families, and allies of all races, classes, genders, and abilities. |
