What is the organization's primary exempt purpose? The Yerba Buena Alliance supports the Yerba Buena Neighborhood by strengthening partnerships, providing critical neighborhood-wide leadership and infrastructure, serving as an information source and forum for the areas diverse residents, businesses, and visitors, and promoting the area as a destination.
Describe the organization’s program service accomplishments for each of its three largest program services, as measured by expenses. In a clear and concise manner, describe the services provided, the number of persons benefited, and other relevant information for each program title.
28 Plans to Integrate with Senior Housing Developer TODCO:In 2020, the Alliance celebrated its 29th anniversary. It was also a year that no one would ever forget, as the world drastically changed with the COVID-19 pandemic. The Alliance started the year strategizing how we would merge into a project of senior housing developer TODCO. At the February board meeting, the Alliance board voted to move forward with the new dynamic, whereby TODCO staff would administer the Yerba Buena Alliance. This unique dynamic would ensure the Alliance could survive. With a changing landscape and the pressures of personnel costs, the generous offer by TODCO would ensure the continuation of this important San Francisco neighborhood organization. It would empower the neighborhood focus to be on crucially important engagement issues and allow for less pressures on staff to raise funds to cover salary expense. Our vision was to engage with the neighborhood and continue regular programming, including the Yerba Buena Neighborhood meeting, annual awards gala, and special neighborhood programming. We envisioned making a Yerba Buena block party and doing more with residential engagement for a more targeted approach for the different kinds of people who lived in the neighborhood. Plans were put on hold as the pandemic changed everything.

29 Essential Workers of Yerba BuenaThe Alliance decided in 2020 to forgo the annual tradition of an unsung hero and organizational champion and only focus on the essential workers of the neighborhood. While we did not officially or formally make any kind of formal event due to a number of factors, we recognized: * Yerba Buena Gardens Conservancy such as the landscapers, building engineers, janitorial workers, etc. * Yerba Buena Community Benefit District Clean Team Members * Grocery store employees such as cashiers and workers at local grocery stores like Trader Joe's * Operational teams in the residential towers at places like TODCO and One Hawthorne * Delivery driver personnel continuing servicesThe Alliance established the respect through our email newsletter and social media campaigns. We will continue to recognize essential workers at the 30th anniversary of the Yerba Buena Alliance in a more formal way once we are able to actually meet in person. We are concerned with the logistics of sponsor benefits or Zoom fatigue as we implement our 2021 strategy.

30 Yerba Buena Stakeholder EngagementContinue to retain a presence onlineProduce monthly, bimonthly and special edition email newslettersMaintain yerbabuena.org websiteContinue a following on social media using Facebook, Instagram and Twitter Engage over 160 different stakeholders in dozens of neighborhood meetingsIntroduce elected officials to stakeholders and learn more about the current trends, changing rules and best practices for managing the pandemic Work collaboratively with other neighborhood organizations and institutions and create cross pollination and opportunities for collaboration on quality of life issues and strive to maintain the highest quality of life possible in the neighborhood Engage with TODCO projects to be supportive where necessaryFollow and monitor the virus and color tiers, openings and closingsCreate a Renewal, Reopening Plan for the future of the post-virus world and strategies to get people back downtownEngaged with the Alliance board and have meetings throughout the year. The Alliance board lost Mary McCue, due to retirement, Alen Velagic, from the Marriott Marquis, and Jeremiah Gregory from the Metreon. The Alliance paused on filling or renewing any board seats during a very turbulent time and we aimed for a new beginning in 2021 after a pandemic recovery, as everyone was absolutely reeling Moved office out of the coworking space Intersection for the Arts in January to 230 Fourth St in San Francisco, and also maintained a remote office during the shelter in placeMaintained an ability to continue and thrive during the pandemic, during very turbulent timesFinancially the alliance did take a devastating hit, like most everyone. Normally, we would be able to raise around $100,000 a year and this year we collected a substantial amount of membership before the pandemic. We did not have any kind of sponsorship income from an anniversary event. We will continue to ensure the recovery of the Yerba Buena Alliance as well as the Yerba Buena neighborhood. We have vested stakeholders who hold continued interest in having a neighborhood alliance to foster connection.
