| FORM 990, PART I, LINE 1 | RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE CHARITIES OF THE CAPITAL REGION (RMHC-CR) DRAWS ON THE COMPASSION OF OUR COMMUNITY TO DELIVER AND SUPPORT PROGRAMS THAT DIRECTLY IMPROVE THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. |
| FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4A | RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE (RMH) LOCATED AT 139 S. LAKE AVENUE IN ALBANY, WALKING DISTANCE FROM THE BERNARD & MILLIE DUKER CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL AT ALBANY MED, RMH OFFERS COMFORTABLE HOUSING, HOME-COOKED MEALS, AND A FAMILY-FRIENDLY ENVIRONMENT TO SUPPORT FAMILIES WHILE THEIR CHILDREN RECEIVE MEDICAL CARE. THE LOVE AND SUPPORT PROVIDED AT RMH KEEPS FAMILIES CLOSE AND ALLOWS THEM TO FOCUS ON WHAT IS MOST IMPORTANT: THE HEALTH AND TREATMENT OF THEIR CHILD. IN 2020, RMH WAS REQUIRED TO SUSPEND INTAKE DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC ON MARCH 13. INTAKE REMAINED SUSPENDED THROUGH JUNE 29, WHEN RMH PROGRAMMING WAS REINSTATED THROUGH A 4-PHASE GRADUATED PROCESS. WHILE INTAKE WAS SUSPENDED, RMH CONTINUED TO FULFILL ITS MISSION TO KEEP FAMILIES CLOSE TO THEIR CHILDREN RECEIVING TREATMENT. TO ACCOMPLISH ITS MISSION, RMH PROVIDED 99 FAMILIES WITH 1410 OVERNIGHT STAYS AT LOCAL HOTELS. EVERY FAMILY REFERRED TO RMH RECEIVED ASSISTANCE AT NO COST TO THE FAMILY. OVERALL, RMH PROVIDED 3872 OVERNIGHT STAYS FOR 478 FAMILIES IN 2020. IN ADDITION, 3 FAMILIES WERE PROVIDED DAYTIME RESPITE SERVICES WITHOUT OVERNIGHT STAY. RMH PROVIDES AN ESSENTIAL SERVICE FOR FAMILIES, ALLOWING IMPROVED ACCESS TO MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR THEIR CHILDREN WHILE REMOVING BARRIERS TO TREATMENT THROUGH PROVISION OF COMPASSION AND HOSPITALITY. PROGRAM OPERATIONS ARE DEPENDENT UPON A COMBINATION OF PAID AND VOLUNTEER STAFFING. |
| FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4B | RONALD MCDONALD CARE MOBILE (RMCM) OPERATED IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ST. PETER'S HEALTH PARTNERS DENTAL CENTER, RMCM PROVIDES FREE, COMPREHENSIVE DENTAL CARE TO UNDERSERVED AND UNDERINSURED CHILDREN ATTENDING AREA SCHOOLS. THE WELL-EQUIPPED, CHILD-FRIENDLY "DENTAL SUITE ON WHEELS" SERVES ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS IN NEED OF DENTAL SERVICES, REGARDLESS OF THEIR FAMILY'S ABILITY TO ACCESS OR PAY FOR SERVICES. IN 2020, RMCM PROVIDED 1,115 DENTAL VISITS FOR 503 CHILDREN FROM 9 AREA SCHOOLS. IN KEEPING WITH THE PURPOSE OF RMCM, VARIOUS PRESCHOOL PROGRAMS AND FOUR (4) ADDITIONAL SCHOOLS WERE IDENTIFIED FOR EXPANDED SERVICE PLANNED FOR THE COMING YEAR. RMCM REMOVES BARRIERS TO ACCESSING DENTAL CARE BY PROVIDING SERVICES IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS AND WITHOUT COST TO FAMILIES. WHEN APPLICABLE, FAMILIES' INSURANCE PROVIDERS ARE BILLED FOR SERVICES. IN ADDITION, RMCM PARTICIPATES IN OUTREACH EVENTS THAT BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY AT LARGE THROUGH COLLABORATIVE EFFORTS THAT SUPPORT THE HOLISTIC HEALTH OF CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. |
| FORM 990, PART III, LINE 4C | RONALD MCDONALD FAMILY ROOM (RMFR) LOCATED WITHIN THE BERNARD & MILLIE DUKER CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL AT ALBANY MED, RMFR IS A WARM, INVITING SPACE, STAFFED BY VOLUNTEERS, THAT PROVIDES RESPITE, NOURISHMENT, AND ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES WHILE THEIR CHILDREN RECEIVE MEDICAL CARE. ADJACENT TO CAMP AMEDORE, RMFR IS A PLACE WHERE SIBLINGS CAN PLAY AND FAMILIES CAN RELAX WHILE STAYING JUST STEPS AWAY FROM A CHILD'S BEDSIDE. IN 2020, RMFR WAS REQUIRED TO SUSPEND SERVICES DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC ON MARCH 13. RMFR REMAINED SUSPENDED THROUGHOUT THE REMAINDER OF THE YEAR; HOWEVER, THE HOSPITALITY CART, LAUNCHED IN JANUARY 2020, REMAINED OPERATIONAL THROUGHOUT THE PANDEMIC. THIS WAS ACHIEVED THROUGH PARTNERSHIP WITH CHILD LIFE SPECIALISTS AND SOCIAL WORKERS FROM THE BERNARD & MILLIE DUKER CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL AND RMHC-CR STAFF. RMFR SERVED 455 FAMILIES WITH 1492 VISITS IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2020. THE HOSPITALITY CART, IN ITS FIRST YEAR OF OPERATION, SERVED 1014 INDIVIDUALS, INCLUDING ADULTS AND CHILDREN. THE CART IS DESIGNED TO BRING COFFEE, HEALTHY SNACKS, GAMES, AND SUPPLIES TO FAMILIES THROUGHOUT THE CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, ALLOWING FAMILIES TO RECEIVE NOURISHMENT AND SUPPORT WITHOUT EVER HAVING TO LEAVE THEIR CHILD'S BEDSIDE. MORE THAN 1,300 FAMILIES ENJOYED THE CALMING, SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT OF RMFR IN 2019, INCLUDING 310 FAMILIES WHO USED THE IN-HOSPITAL OVERNIGHT ROOMS PROVIDED THROUGH THE PROGRAM. RMFR ALSO SPONSORS A WAITING ROOM LOCATED OUTSIDE THE NEONATAL INTENSIVE CARE UNIT (NICU) OF THE BERNARD & MILLIE DUKER CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL AT ALBANY MED. THIS SPACE PROVIDES COFFEE AND LIGHT REFRESHMENTS FOR FAMILIES OF CHILDREN IN THE NICU AND PROMOTES THE AVAILABILITY OF THE FULL SERVICES OF RMFR. |
