WE ARE A PARTICIPATING AGENCY OF FIRST 5 QUALITY EARLY LEARNING INITIATIVE (QELI) TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF EARLY LEARNING WHILE SUPPORTING CHILDREN AND THEIR FAMILIES THRIVE. THE EMPHASIS IS TO ADVANCE THE QUALITY OF THE SERVICES TO REDUCE THE ACHIEVEMENT GAP; AND STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIPS WITH COMMUNITY PROGRAMS TO EXPAND THE ARRAY OF RESOURCES FOR OUR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES. OUR PRIMARY FOCUS IS TO NURTURE SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT TO ENHANCE SCHOOL READINESS. DUE TO COVID-19 WE ADAPTED TO MEET THE RESTRICTIONS BY PROVIDING SERVICES ON SITE AT THE ALLOWABLE CAPACITY WHILE ALSO PROVIDING DISTANCE LEARNING FOR FAMILIES WHO PREFERRED AN ALTERNATIVE OPTION. |

YOUNG WOMEN ARE EXPOSED TO AT-RISK BEHAVIORS, SOCIAL PRESSURES AND A RANGE OF EXPECTATION THAT ARE MODELED IN SOCIAL MEDIA, AND FURTHER CHALLENGED BY CULTURAL, EDUCATIONAL AND COMMUNICATION GAPS AMONGST GENERATIONS. YW-TEENS HAS BEEN ABLE TO BRIDGE THOSE GAPS. OUR CONTINUED PRESENCE FOR GROUP DISCUSSIONS ADDRESSING THEIR CONCERNS AIDS IN BUILDING AND MODELING POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS AMONG PARTICIPANTS. THE EFFECTIVENESS OF OUR PROGRAM IS ACHIEVED THROUGH ADAPTING THE ACTIVITIES TO SERVE THE MATURITY, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL DIVERSITY AMONG OUR PARTICIPANTS. OUR YW-TEEN PROGRAM SERVES MIDDLE SCHOOL AGE STUDENTS, OUR YW-LEADERS IS A MENTORING PROGRAM FOR BOTH HIGH SCHOOL AND LOCAL COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO MEET THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICE REQUIREMENT AND SERVE AS ROLE MOLES TO YOUNGER GENERATIONS. OUR NEWEST PROGRAM THE YOUNG WOMEN CHOOSING ACTION CURRICULUM GUIDED BY THE YWCA USA THEORY OF CHANGE AND FRAMED BY DEVELOPMENTALLY AND EDUCATIONAL THERAPEUTIC THEORIES. IN THIS PROGRAM TEENS EXPAND THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF THEIR PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL RESPONSES TO ENABLE TEENS TO CULTIVATE AND PRACTICE THEIR PERSONAL WELL-BEING TO BUILD THEIR CAPACITY AS LEADERS. DURING COVID 19 WE CONTINUE TO PROVIDE SERVICES ONLINE. THE YWCA COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROGRAM PROMOTES COMMUNITY WELLBEING BY PARTNERING WITH VARIOUS AGENCIES WHO ORGANIZE ACTIVITIES FOR THE COMMUNITY. THIS YEAR, THIS PROGRAM WAS AFFECTED DUE TO COVID 19 HEALTH AND SAFETY GUIDELINES. THE YW-TEEN SUMMER PROGRAM DISTRIBUTES A LUNCH FOR CHILDREN AND YOUTH 0-18 YEARS OLD AND ORGANIZES RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES TO PROVIDE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT FOR FAMILIES IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. THIS YEAR, ACTIVITIES PACKAGES WERE PREPARED TO BE DISTRIBUTED BUT CANCELED DUE TO HEALTH CONCERNS. IN ADDITION, THE YWCA-FACILITY RENTAL WHICH IS USED FOR MEETINGS, OR TRAININGS OR GATHERINGS WAS LIMITED. ONLY 18 DIFFERENT AGENCIES AND 6 PRIVATE GROUPS USED OUR FACILITY, SERVING ONLY 2,810 INDIVIDUALS. THIS REPRESENTS A REDUCTION GREATER THAN 50% FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR. OTHER COMMUNITY EVENTS ORGANIZED AT OUR SITE BY THE YWCA THAT WERE CANCELED THIS YEAR WERE: NATIONAL NIGHT OUT, WINTER HOLIDAY AND INTERNATIONAL WOMEN'S DAY.
