|---|---|
| Other | Celebrating 15 years 2005-2020. In November 2005 after moving to New Jersey and getting lost in Camden, our president and founder walked into an attorney's office and hired them to start a nonprofit. Our founder had previously served on several boards of directors, obtained a degree in marketing, and volunteered for animal charities for 13 years prior to 2005, but it was time to bring it all together. To round off her experience, she obtained the Animal Cruelty Investigation and Animal Control Officer Certifications, which proved extremely helpful in the years to come. |
| Other | --- |
| Other | This was the birth of NJ Aid for Animals. The founder had a vision for the organization, but little did we realize at the time the number of animals and people whose lives would be enriched by our still all-volunteer charity in the decade and a half of years to come! |
| Other | ----- |
| Other | For fifteen years, NJ Aid for Animals has been resilient and focused on advocating for all animals, recognizing and reporting animal cruelty for successful prosecution, and pioneering ideas like Pets in the City (bringing enrichment to underserved communities) and Lost No More (providing microchips to pets so they do not end up in the shelters.) |
| Other | ------ |
| Other | We have done it all, from making and distributing dog houses to sponsoring billboards to encouraging spay/neuter of pit bulls in Camden City and Cumberland County with Mike Trout's and Bernard Hopkins' donated images. We have had challenges and opportunities foreseen and unforeseen, but we have persevered through it all. |
| Other | Over 15 years we have enriched and rescued countless animals' lives, provide people with resources to be successful pet owners; legislative changes; wrongdoings from animal abusers held accountable; our rescue dog Sweet Pea, a dog fight survivor being named the ASPCA Dog of the Year for 2019 and the permanent Official Face of Dog Fighting Awareness for the State of NJ and achieving the highest level of transparency (Platinum) on Guidestar. |
| Other | For the last 5475 days, NJ Aid for Animals has led the charge and continues to set the bar higher for animals in need. |
| Other | Throughout the last decade and a half, NJ Aid for Animals fought and advocated for an end to animal cruelty. We have attended dozens of court cases where we were witnesses for abused animals. We found an ordinance in a municipality that freed thirty-nine pit bulls from being chained, which for years had been left unaddressed by animal control, NJSPCA, and the municipal prosecutor. We have also been able to fill the gap that was left between NJSPCA disbanding and the police departments taking over the responsibility of animal cruelty. Spaying and neutering were also one of our top priorities to stem the tide of overpopulation. We 100% supported trapping, neutering, and returning cats to the field so that they were not reproducing and not being euthanized at the shelters and sponsored many feral cats to be fixed. |
| Other | While in the last fifteen years we have grown and adapted to the challenges presented to us, some things have not changed. We are still an all-volunteer organization, still enriching animals' lives, and still maintaining the highest level of transparency (Platinum Level) on Guidestar, the watchdog of charities. |
| Other | We had planned to celebrate our 15th year a little differently, but it did not turn out that way. The pandemic hit all charities very hard in 2020 and NJ Aid for Animals was not immune. We lost income from not only individual donors whose incomes and health were affected by the virus, but from many of our signature fundraising events and programs. We had to cancel two of our fundraisers - our trademarked Bikers for Bullies and the annual Sweet Pea Gala for abused animals. We also had to cancel our 14th Annual Pets in the City in Camden, NJ. |
| Other | Despite all that has happened this year, we have not forgotten the animals in need. The public continued to call us because they had animal problems that they needed help with, and we answered those calls. Whether they needed resources for low-cost spay or neuter, information on rehoming a pet or reporting cruelty, or were involved in litigation over an animal, we had a resource for them. We were the light at the end of the tunnel for pet lovers and provided the guidance needed to make it through this difficult time. |
| Other | As part of our mission in 2020 AND as a FIRST for NJ Aid for Animals, we started working with legislators on animal laws. We were able to hire a lobbyist that is funded with none of our operating funds but rather a board member funds the lobbyist. |
| Other | We want to support legislation that will help the ultimate beneficiaries of our good work and oppose legislation that will harm our good work translated means animals. We know that good or bad legislation can have a huge impact on what we do. We want our donors to know we are working to have an impact on those areas. |
| Other | We also created a mural to memorialize just a few of the animals we have touched or saved over the last 15 years. For every name, there is a story, a person, and most importantly an animal in need of help. It's very hard for us to look at the mural because each name evokes a powerful memory. Whether it was an owner that was being cruel, a stray animal that no one wanted, or an animal with no advocate we saved them all and we remember each one of them to this day! Some of the animals here are no longer with us, some still are BUT ALL lived a better life after NJ Aid for Animals came into it. If only we could make something large enough to hold ALL OF THE NAMES, it would easily be as large as a billboard. Without the generosity of our donors, they and dozens of other names would not be on our mural today. |
| Other | The community relies upon us for life-saving information, resources, and services for abused animals. We are a trusted and well-managed organization, with a strong and committed network of volunteers, donors, and community and professional contacts. We recognize the value and weight of the trust that you place in us by donating and do not take that charge lightly. We worry that the virus and the related economic and community outcomes will result in animals needing our help - and we want to make sure that we are ready to be there for them. Whatever the next year brings, NJ Aid for Animals will be there to answer the call. |
| Other | After 15 years, we have enriched many lives with our circle of influence from cruelty prosecutors to rescue partners to donors like you. Whether a dog, cat, horse, mouse, pig, or even an owl, we answer the call and work tirelessly to save lives. |
| Other | Gifts to NJ Aid for Animals have a far-reaching impact, such as a vet bill for an abused or abandoned animal who has no one. Thank you for believing in us and know that when you donate to NJ Aid for Animals, you save lives. |
| Other | Advocacy. Action. Impact. A moniker that has served the animals and people well for 15 years. |
| Other | $33,000 in restricted funds shown below: $20,000 for a vehicle $3,000 for a dog we rescued in 2018 whose left leg had surgery. Advised by vet the other leg may also need surgery in future. Dog was adopted by a family that will not be able to afford surgery so we restricted funds for dog to be adopted into a loving family. $10,000 for development |
