Training - Informed, educated families and professionals become the best advocates when they know key information that applies to individuals with disabilities and special healthcare needs. We provide over 125 annual trainings on special education rights under the Federal Education Law, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, the Federal Civil Rights Law, the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Federal Developmental Disabilities Act, and a multitude of Louisiana state laws that protect and provide services to individuals with disabilities and special healthcare needs. 3. Here are just a few of the comments made during this process: * "The knowledge we gained from FHF of GNO gave us the courage we needed to face a room full of people." * "FHF of GNO has been an invaluable resource for our family for the past three years. My husband and I knew we were in over our heads trying to navigate the school system's IEP process and how behavioral issues were being handled. FHF of GNO taught us how to be an advocate, helped bridge the gaps with the school system, and we are now all working in unison to help Max have the best academic future possible We are forever grateful." * "After my daughter was denied accommodations on 3 occasions for her ACT test, we reached out to FHF of GNO to see if anything else could be done. We were given specific instructions and language to use and within 2 weeks, received notification that her testing accommodations were approved." * "I called FHF of GNO in desperate need of assistance as my kindergarten-age son was being expelled from school. FHF of GNO taught me about his rights and how to prepare for the expulsion hearing. I was able to use this knowledge to successfully keep my son in school. FHF of GNO is my "go-to place" from now on." * "This school year started out horrible for our son. I called FHF of GNO to receive support. In the first phone call I had, I was told. "before the school year is over you will be able to have an IEP meeting without me, hold the school accountable, and make sure your son is receiving the education he deserves." This is exactly what is happening now. FHF of GNO taught me how to be on top of everything. The leadership, love, and support given to our family is truly appreciated." |
