Specifically, the funds were used to initiate and maintain the clinical trial of a live-cell organ xenotransplant (a skin transplant used to treat severe burns) and to conduct research and pre-clinical studies of other platform products in accordance with FDA standards. The funds were also used to further refine and care for the genetically engineered swine herds that serve as donors for the xenotransplants, as well as to harvest, process, and store materials in accordance with FDA standards. Lastly, funds were used to develop educational materials for videos, websites, and conferences to teach the public about the science of xenotransplantation and the numerous applications of it.
