| Form 990, Part III, Line 1 - Organization's Mission | WWIN empowers women in Washington state to achieve economic stability through higher education and living-wage careers. We believe that economic stability is the foundation a woman needs to achieve her full potential, and that more women in our community will succeed and thrive if they have access to a strong support system, the opportunity to achieve higher education, and career coaching. Our organization has been supporting women since 1992, awarding 7,000 grants total including 232 in fiscal year 2021 alone. Our current programs include the WWIN Star Scholarship, Resiliency Fund, Career Launch coaching grant, and Activate You Women's Empowerment workshops. |
| Form 990, Part III, Line 4a - Program Accomplishments | WWIN Star Scholars receive up to $5,000 each year toward the total cost of attendance for their undergraduate degree program at an approved college or university in Washington State. Each Star Scholarship may be renewed until graduation, up to a lifetime maximum of $20,000 in WWIN scholarship funding. Applicants must meet all of WWINs eligibility criteria and submit all required documentation to be considered. WWIN Star Scholars are then selected with intention in a competitive review process and have demonstrated their alignment with our vision, mission, and values. They have overcome obstacles in life with positivity and strength and truly exemplify the resilience and determination of a WWIN woman. We are proud to support them in pursuing higher education and to provide financial resources, encouragement, and inspiration along their path to economic stability.WWIN supported 180 Star Scholars for the 2020-21 academic year. Highlights of their achievements include:- 48 new graduates: 46 with bachelor's degrees (96%) and two with associates degrees- Graduates have an average GPA of 3.7- On the Star Scholarship completion survey, 100% responded that yes, WWIN helped them feel supported, encouraged, and empowered- 125 women will continue as Star Scholars next year and are on track to graduate- Seven women in this years cohort did not continue as WWIN Star Scholars, either because they had secured alternate funding or because they had moved out of state. The Resiliency Fund program enables WWIN to more comprehensively support our Star Scholars beyond the cost of attendance for their degrees, providing one-time assistance grants for unexpected expenses that may impact a Scholars ability to complete her education. Current Scholars may apply for a Resiliency Fund grant at any time. There is a lifetime maximum of $2,000 in Resiliency Fund support available for each Scholar. Requests in FY21 ranged from $88 to $2,000, and the average award was $699. WWIN awarded 27 Resiliency Fund grants in FY21, totaling $18,874. The Career Launch program empowers our graduating Star Scholars to take the next step after completing their degree by allowing them to work one-on-one with a certified coach to build vital job search skills and take action towards launching a living-wage career. Through a series of 18 sessions over six to nine months, women work with their coaches to build the skills and confidence to successfully transition from completing their education to beginning their new careers. Each womans experience in coaching is unique, tailored specifically to her needs. Coaching sessions focus on a variety of hard and soft skills: from creating a resume, interviewing, and negotiating a job offer to learning to advocate for herself, set personal and professional goals, and navigate work and family responsibilities. WWIN awarded 9 Career Launch grants in FY21, totaling $16,200. WWIN's Activate You Womens Empowerment Workshops are free, virtual workshops that offer all women in our community critical skills for any stage of their life or career, including personal branding, salary negotiation, powerful communication and story-telling, self-care, silencing the inner critic, and more.Through these programs, we provide the resources, inspiration, and encouragement that each woman needs to achieve economic stability and build a strong future for herself, her family, and her community. |
