A tax position is recognized as a benefit only if it is "more likely than not" that the tax position would be sustained in a tax examination, with a tax examination being presumed to occur. The amount recognized is the largest amount of tax benefit that is greater than 50% likely of being realized on examination. For tax positions not meeting the more likely than not test, no tax benefit is recorded. The Association recognizes interest and penalties related to unrecognized tax benefits in interest and income tax expense, respectively. The Association has no amounts accrued for interest or penalties as of December 31, 2020 and 2019.

Any person that has a conflict is not allowed to vote on transactions or decisions for which that individual may personally benefit.
Form 990, Part VI, Line 15a Process to establish compensation of top management official The EVP's compensation is determined by the EVP Advisory Committee (EVPAC) made up of independent members of the governing board using comparability data, performance evaluations and other information (eg. experience). In accordance with the EVP's written employment contract, the EVPAC meets twice to discuss the EVP's previous years' performance, objective for the coming year, areas for development and any changes in pay (including bonuses and pay increases). The first meeting is composed only of members of the EVPAC, and the second meeting includes the members of the EVPAC and the EVP. At the WCR Midyear Meetings, the President-elect reports the results of the evaluation meetings to the Executive Committee (EC), and accordingly, this EVP contractual update is noted in the minutes of the EC. The EVP's compensation for the 2020 tax year was reviewed and approved in December 2020.
