AS A FUNDER, PARTNER AND CONVENER, WE WORK WITH THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY TO BRING TOGETHER RESOURCES, FOCUS INVESTMENTS, AND FOSTER PARTNERSHIPS THAT CREATE LASTING SOLUTIONS TO OUR COMMUNITY'S MOST PRESSING PROBLEMS. IN 2020, UNITED WAY OF GREENVILLE COUNTY INVESTED IN 67 LOCAL PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES THROUGH THE 2020 REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS GRANT CYCLE, WORKING HAND-IN-HAND TO ADDRESS THE BIG CHALLENGES THAT NO SINGLE ORGANIZATION CAN SOLVE ON ITS OWN. APPROXIMATELY 100,000 PEOPLE BENEFITED FROM THESE DONOR-SUPPORTED PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES, RECEIVING ASSISTANCE IN THE AREAS OF EDUCATION, FINANCIAL STABILITY, AND VIBRANT AND EQUITABLE COMMUNITIES. COVID-19 COMMUNITY RELIEF FUND IN ADDITION TO THE 2020 RFP, UWGC, IN PARTNERSHIP WITH FIVE LOCAL COMMUNITY FOUNDATIONS, LAUNCHED THE COVID-19 COMMUNITY RELIEF FUND ON MARCH 15, 2020 TO ASSIST GREENVILLE COUNTY'S MOST VULNERABLE NEIGHBORS WITH THE RESOURCES THEY NEED IN FOOD, HOUSING, UTILITIES AND OTHER BASIC NEEDS. ONE YEAR LATER, NEARLY $4M HAS BEEN DEPLOYED INTO THE COMMUNITY, INCLUDING OVER $2.5M TO OVER 3,700 HOUSEHOLDS TO KEEP THEIR LIGHTS ON. RESPONDING TO THE INCREASED NEEDS, UNITED WAY LOCALIZED THE GREENVILLE COUNTY RESOURCE LINE, WHICH RECEIVED NEARLY 44,000 CALLS OF INDIVIDUALS REQUESTING EMERGENCY RESOURCES WITH FOOD, HOUSING, UTILITIES, AND OTHER BASIC NEEDS (AS COMPARED TO 5,000 CALLS IN THE PREVIOUS YEAR). OF THE CALLS RECEIVED, 42% ARE FOR UTILITY ASSISTANCE AND 33% ARE FOR HOUSING ASSISTANCE. PROGRAMS AT A GLANCE AMERICORPS UNITED WAY ADMINISTERS AMERICORPS NATIONAL SERVICE PROGRAMS IN THE UPSTATE, COLLABORATING WITH 19 PARTNER SITES IN GREENVILLE, ANDERSON, LAURENS AND PICKENS COUNTIES. OVER THE LAST THREE YEARS, AMERICORPS MEMBERS HAVE PROVIDED FINANCIAL STABILITY AND RESOURCE SERVICES TO NEARLY 11,000 CLIENTS. ONTRACK GREENVILLE UNITED WAY'S INNOVATIVE GRADUATION INITIATIVE, ONTRACK GREENVILLE, REACHES MORE THAN 5,000 GREENVILLE COUNTY STUDENTS AT SIX MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS IN GREENVILLE COUNTY. THE EARLY WARNING AND RESPONSE SYSTEM COMPONENT, WHICH IDENTIFIES STUDENTS WHO ARE FLAGGED FOR ATTENDANCE ISSUES, BEHAVIOR ISSUES AND POOR COURSE PERFORMANCE, HAS BEEN SCALED DISTRICTWIDE TO 77,000 STUDENTS IN GREENVILLE COUNTY. SCHOLARSHIPS UNITED WAY WOMEN'S LEADERSHIP JOBS TO CAREERS SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM CONTINUES TO HELP GREENVILLE COUNTY WOMEN IMPROVE THEIR FINANCIAL STABILITY BY TRANSITIONING FROM PAYCHECK-TO-PAYCHECK JOBS TO MORE STABLE, LONG-TERM CAREERS. THE PROGRAM HAS GRADUATED 45 WOMEN IN THE LAST NINE YEARS WITH MANY MORE ON THE WAY. IN 2020, UNITED WAY'S AFRICAN AMERICAN LEADERSHIP GREENVILLE (AALG) ANNOUNCED ONE-TIME SCHOLARSHIPS THAT SUPPORT FOUR (4) $2500 AWARDS TO AFRICAN-AMERICAN HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATES IN THE UPSTATE ATTENDING 2- OR 4-YEAR COLLEGES. FAITH-BASED ROUNDTABLE REPRESENTATIVES FROM A CROSS-SECTION OF GREENVILLE COUNTY'S FAITH COMMUNITY MEET UNDER THE UNITED WAY UMBRELLA TO BUILD A GREATER KNOWLEDGE OF THE HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICE ISSUES MANY IN OUR COMMUNITY ARE FACING, AND TO DEVELOP NEW INTER-FAITH AND NONPROFIT CONNECTIONS AND PARTNERSHIPS TO ADDRESS THEM. GREENVILLE DREAMS' GRASSROOT LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT THIS PARTNERSHIP WITH THE CITY OF GREENVILLE AND THE GREENVILLE COUNTY REDEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY SERVES TO EDUCATE AND DEPLOY NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERS FROM SPECIAL EMPHASIS NEIGHBORHOODS IN GREENVILLE COUNTY. THE INITIATIVE SERVES TO CONNECT NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERSHIP IN SPECIAL EMPHASIS NEIGHBOHOODS TO RESOURCES THAT SUPPORT THE ENHANCEMENT OF THEIR FINANCIAL, SOCIAL, AND HUMAN CAPITAL. THE LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM HAS TRAINED MORE THAN 150 NEIGHBORHOOD LEADERS OVER THE LAST DECADE. GREENVILLE REENTRY COALITION AS A MEMBER OF THE COALITION, UNITED WAY WORKS TO IDENTIFY AND DEVELOP RESOURCES FOR RETURNING MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY, OR THOSE WITH EXTENSIVE CRIMINAL HISTORIES, IN ORDER TO INCREASE THE QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE AREAS OF HOUSING, EMPLOYMENT, FINANCIAL STABILITY AND EDUCATION. VOLUNTEER ENGAGEMENT EACH YEAR, UNITED WAY VOLUNTEERS ROLL UP THEIR SLEEVES AND DONATE THEIR TIME TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE FOR OTHERS. IN ADDITION, UPSTATE TAXPAYERS RECEIVED OVER $15 MILLION IN FEDERAL AND STATE TAX REFUNDS. RACIAL EQUITY AND ECONOMIC MOBILITY (REEM) COMMISSION THE COMMISSION IS COMPRISED OF 35 COMMUNITY LEADERS FROM DIVERSE BACKGROUNDS AND INDUSTRIES WHO SHARE A COMMITMENT TO CREATING CHANGE IN GREENVILLE COUNTY. BY COMING TOGETHER TO LISTEN, ANALYZE, UNDERSTAND AND LEARN, THE COMMISSION AIMS TO IDENTIFY STRATEGIES AND DEVELOP PARTNERSHIPS THAT ERADICATE RACE-BASED DISPARITIES AND INEQUITIES IMPACTING THE BLACK COMMUNITY IN GREENVILLE COUNTY. FOOD SECURITY COALITION UNITED WAY OF GREENVILLE COUNTY CO-LAUNCHED THE GREENVILLE COUNTY FOOD SECURITY COALITION. THIS NETWORK OF DIRECT SERVICE PROVIDERS AND INTERMEDIARIES COLLABORATED ON GRANT APPLICATIONS, A NEW FOOD INSECURITY GIS MAP, WEEKEND FEEDING, AND MOTEL FEEDING BETWEEN MARCH OF 2020 AND THE END OF THE YEAR IN RESPONSE TO COVID-19. 1,095 BOXES OF FOOD WERE DISTRIBUTED TO FAMILIES ACROSS THE COUNTY. THIS EQUATES TO OVER 4,000 INDIVIDUALS RECEIVING SUPPLEMENTAL FOOD DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC. THIS COST A TOTAL OF $11,472. |
