As a simple food pantry, the vast majority (97%) of the money collected is used to buy food and milk to be distributed to the needy. With donations and the number served fluctuating each month, WRFP needs to carry a balance that would allow the pantry to purchase food and milk to meet the needs of those it serves each month. In 2020, the food pantry experienced five months where it spent more on expenses that it received in contributions. If the food pantry does not maintain a balance, there may not have been enough money to meet the needs for the leaner months of the year. In addition, carrying a balance allows WRFP to help in emergency situations throughout the year.
