| CORE FORM, PART VI, SECTION A; QUESTION 7 | THE ORGANIZATION'S BYLAWS PROVIDE THAT Nominations of candidates to be elected as Trustees shall be made by the Committee on Trustees. IN ADDITION, THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES HAS THE POWER TO establish AN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE TO WHICH THE BOARD MAY DELEGATE CERTAIN POWERS. |
| FORM 990, PART VI, SECTION B; QUESTION 11B | A COPY OF THE ORGANIZATION'S final FORM 990 WAS PROVIDED TO ALL MEMBERS OF ITS GOVERNING BODY, ITS BOARD OF TRUSTEES, FOR REVIEW PRIOR TO FILING WITH THE INTERNAL REVENUE SERVICE ("IRS"). THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES HAS THE RESPONSIBILITY TO OVERSEE, REVIEW AND APPROVE OF THE FEDERAL FORM 990, INCLUDING THE PREPARATION, REVIEW AND FILING PROCESS. AS PART OF THE TAX RETURN PREPARATION PROCESS THE ORGANIZATION HIRED A PROFESSIONAL CPA FIRM WITH EXPERIENCE AND EXPERTISE IN NOT-FOR-PROFIT TAX RETURN PREPARATION TO PREPARE THE FEDERAL FORM 990. THE CPA FIRM'S TAX PROFESSIONALS WORKED CLOSELY WITH THE ORGANIZATION'S HEAD OF SCHOOL TO OBTAIN THE INFORMATION NEEDED IN ORDER TO PREPARE A COMPLETE AND ACCURATE TAX RETURN. THE CPA FIRM PREPARED A DRAFT FEDERAL FORM 990 AND FURNISHED IT TO THESE INDIVIDUALS FOR REVIEW. THESE INDIVIDUALS REVIEWED THE DRAFT FEDERAL FORM 990 AND DISCUSSED QUESTIONS AND COMMENTS WITH THE CPA FIRM. THE ORGANIZATION'S OUTSIDE ACCOUNTANT ALSO PERFORMED A DETAILED REVIEW OF THE DRAFT FORM 990. REVISIONS WERE MADE TO THE DRAFT FEDERAL FORM 990 WHERE NECESSARY AND A FINAL DRAFT WAS FURNISHED BY THE CPA FIRM TO THESE INDIVIDUALS FOR FINAL REVIEW AND APPROVAL PRIOR TO PROVIDING A COPY TO ALL MEMBERS OF this organization's board of trustees AND FILING WITH THE IRS. |
| FORM 990, PART VI, SECTION B; QUESTION 12 | ALL BOARD MEMBERS ARE REQUIRED TO ANNUALLY COMPLETE A CONFLICT OF INTEREST DISCLOSURE FORM THAT IS REVIEWED BY THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES. WHEN POTENTIAL CONFLICTS ARE IDENTIFIED, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES DISCUSSES THE MATERIAL FACTS AND THEN DETERMINES IF A CONFLICT EXISTS. IF A CONFLICT EXISTS, THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES THEN DECIDES ON THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION AND ANY NECESSARY MITIGATING BEHAVIOR. IN ALL SITUATIONS, THE RELEVANT INDIVIDUAL SHALL BE REMOVED FROM ANY DECISION MAKING RELATED TO THEIR POTENTIAL CONFLICT. |
| FORM 990, PART VI, SECTION B, LINE 15 | THE ORGANIZATION'S BOARD OF TRUSTEES MAINTAINS AN EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE ("COMMITTEE"). THE COMMITTEE IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF THE COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS OF THE ORGANIZATION'S HEAD OF SCHOOL . THE COMMITTEE'S REVIEW IS DONE ON AT LEAST AN ANNUAL BASIS AND ENSURES THAT THE "TOTAL COMPENSATION" OF THE HEAD OF SCHOOL IS REASONABLE. THE ACTIONS TAKEN BY THE COMMITTEE ENABLE THE ORGANIZATION TO RECEIVE THE REBUTTABLE PRESUMPTION OF REASONABLENESS FOR PURPOSES OF INTERNAL REVENUE CODE SECTION 4958 WITH RESPECT TO THE TOTAL COMPENSATION OF THE HEAD OF SCHOOL. THE THREE FACTORS WHICH MUST BE SATISFIED IN ORDER TO RECEIVE THE REBUTTABLE PRESUMPTION OF REASONABLENESS ARE THE FOLLOWING: 1. THE COMPENSATION ARRANGEMENT IS APPROVED IN ADVANCE BY AN "AUTHORIZED BODY" OF THE APPLICABLE TAX-EXEMPT ORGANIZATION WHICH IS COMPOSED ENTIRELY OF INDIVIDUALS WHO DO NOT HAVE A "CONFLICT OF INTEREST" WITH RESPECT TO THE COMPENSATION ARRANGEMENT; 2. THE AUTHORIZED BODY OBTAINED AND RELIED UPON "APPROPRIATE DATA AS TO COMPARABILITY" PRIOR TO MAKING ITS DETERMINATION; AND 3. THE AUTHORIZED BODY "ADEQUATELY DOCUMENTED THE BASIS FOR ITS DETERMINATION" CONCURRENTLY WITH MAKING THAT DETERMINATION. THE COMMITTEE IS COMPRISED OF MEMBERS OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES EACH OF WHOM ARE INDEPENDENT AND ARE FREE FROM ANY CONFLICTS OF INTEREST. THE COMMITTEE RELIED UPON APPROPRIATE COMPARABLE DATA; SPECIFICALLY, THE COMMITTEE BASES ITS REVIEW ON AN OUTSIDE INDEPENDENT STUDY THAT INCLUDES OFFICER COMPENSATION AT OTHER SECONDARY INDEPENDENT-PREPARATORY ACADAMIES OF A SIMILAR NATURE. THIS STUDY IS PREPARED BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS ("NAIS"). THE COMMITTEE ADEQUATELY DOCUMENTED THE BASIS FOR ITS DETERMINATION THROUGH THE TIMELY PREPARATION OF WRITTEN MINUTES OF THE COMMITTEE MEETINGS DURING WHICH THE HEAD OF SCHOOL'S COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS WAS REVIEWED AND SUBSEQUENTLY APPROVED. |
| FORM 990, PART VI, SECTION C; QUESTION 19 | THE ORGANIZATION MAKES ALL ITS GOVERNING DOCUMENTS AND CONFLICT OF INTEREST POLICY AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC UPON REQUEST. |
| FORM 990, PART XII, LINE 2C | AN INDEPENDENT CPA FIRM AUDITED THE FINANCIAL STATEMENTS OF THE TAXPAYER FOR THE YEAR ENDED JUNE 30, 2019 AND ISSUED AN UNMODIFIED OPINION. THE ORGANIZATION'S AUDIT AND RISK COMMITTEE ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR OVERSIGHT OF THE AUDIT OF THE ORGANIZATION'S FINANCIAL STATEMENTS AND THE SELECTION OF ITS INDEPENDENT AUDITOR. ACCORDING TO THE ORGANIZATION'S BYLAWS THE AUDIT AND RISK COMMITTEE shall: recommend the independent auditor for Board approval; work with the auditor to establish the scope of the audit; review the recommendations for improving internal controls as noted in the auditor's management letter; recommend approval of the annual audit to the Board; and monitor the implementation of the recommendations of the management letter. |

| CORE FORM, PART III; STATEMENT OF PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS | OUR MISSION ============ Trinity Hall is an independent, all-girls school that educates and empowers young women in the Catholic tradition through an innovative college preparatory program grounded in our four core values of leadership, respect, perseverance, and faith. Trinity Hall prepares each student to achieve her full potential as she embraces her place in the world. OUR STORY ========== At Trinity Hall we have reached milestones with everything we have done from academics to athletics to the arts. We have set the standard for all the young ladies who will follow. But our most extraordinary milestone is our students and now four classes of graduates. We have graduated four (4)) classes of students who have set, achieved and surpassed goals and continue to aspire to greater things in the future. We called them pioneers and leaders four years ago; now we call them alumnae. They join our first class in college and universities across the country. To date, our most challenging step of the building process was to find a permanent location. Our west wing two-story was completed during the FY19 year and occupied in February, 2019. This new space provides two innovation spaces and 11 more classrooms. Our growing enrollment has found a home in our 40,000 square-foot classroom building. We take pride in the state-of-the-art school. In September 2019, Trinity Hall's school year began with the usual flurry of excitement and anticipation, new faces to welcome, and opening trips to enjoy. We continued through much of our seventh year enjoying and building upon the exceptional programs and traditions of our community. Then, in March 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic challenged us to extend the walls of Trinity Hall when we pivoted to a remote - but personally connected -- model. Our story is one of empowerment, community, sisterhood, collaboration, and support as we continued through the remainder of the school year. We were ready with the latest technology to provide remote learning and extracurricular experiences to our students at home. Our students stepped up in their communities, completing more than 8,000 service hours despite not having our annual service day. At an in-person ceremony in July, we celebrated the commencement of our largest class of graduates who rose to the occasion in their remaining months as students, leading with exemplary sisterhood and grace. Together, we turned the challenges of 2020 into redefining moments - and MORE! Academic Program =============== Trinity Hall is committed to providing unprecedented opportunities for learning and leadership through an innovative curriculum taught by passionate and experienced faculty in a diverse environment that celebrates the Catholic tradition. Trinity Hall encourages students to think creatively and critically, solve problems and collaborate, communicate effectively, and lead. Through interdisciplinary studies, design thinking, and a problem-based math curriculum, students are academically well- rounded and thoroughly prepared for college. Our Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics program focuses on developing lessons and techniques that bring together STEAM disciplines and concepts through creative hands-on projects and experiments. Trinity Hall students take four years of engineering, starting with the design process and its applications in grades 9-10, developing solutions to various challenges while documenting and communicating their work in grade 11; and participating in advanced problem solving and design development in grade 12. Trinity Hall's problem-based math program integrates several mathematical concepts and subjects each year, beginning with the building of algebra and geometry skills in Math I, to more intensive geometry, algebra 2, and trigonometry in Math II, leading to pre-calculus in Math III and ultimately calculus at either the Honors or AP level. Our Humanities program is intentionally designed to integrate both skills and content between the disciplines of English, history, and theology. Students learn to appreciate and understand the historical, cultural, theological, and literary contexts of their global society through an interdisciplinary approach that encourages 21st century skills. Students make significant connections, analyze important issues, and articulate their interpretations and opinions orally and in writing. Through the lens of the Catholic theological tradition, students engage in the exploration of prayer, scripture, sacraments, the Church's moral and social teachings, as well as the examination of all world religions. Integral to our theology courses is a fostering of each student's discernment of who God is, who she is, and the discovery of her unique place in our world. The World Language courses at Trinity Hall facilitate a class structure built around the four main skills: reading, writing, listening, and speaking. The classes aim for target language instruction only. Cultural comparisons, connections, and global outreach are a priority over the scope and sequence of the students' language learning journey. - We enrolled 296 students for the 2019-2020 school year representing a continuous annual increase in enrollment. - Students were served in an academic program of 165 days in an 8-day cycle day that includes an afternoon student support period each day, and time during the school day for clubs and student activities. - We are fully accredited by the New Jersey Association of Independent Schools and the Middle States Commission on Secondary Schools. - Spring of 2020 presented new challenges with the COVID-19 pandemic and the move to remote learning. We pivoted with ease as the technology skills of our faculty are superior. - Our usual spring activities and events were limited due to the pandemic but Trinity Hall found new ways to stay connected and continue our strong academic and extracurricular programs. - After qualifying for the National Championship of the Girls Go CyberStart coding competition for the first time ever, the Trinity Hall computer science team finished 18th out of 276 teams. - In May 2020, Trinity Hall administered 480 virtual Advanced Placement tests in 20 subjects. As of August 2020, 52 students were named AP Scholars, 13 students were named AP Scholars with Honor, 15 students were named an AP Scholar with Distinction, and one student was named a National AP Scholar. One student was named a National Merit Semi-Finalist. - Beyond the Hall - in earlier years a 40-hour internship program became "Windows to Careers" day for our senior class. Seizing the opportunity of the virtual platform, professionals from many different careers met with our seniors online in a full day of workshops. The seniors heard from lawyers, doctors, bankers, nurses, engineers, designers, and many other professionals from far and wide. - Trinity Hall faculty and staff delivered signs to the Class of 2020 during the start of the pandemic. A car parade followed the Trinity Hall bus (with the Monarch mascot) over four days in April, bringing signs, smiles, and lots of honking in celebration of their senior year - Graduation was held in July on campus following the new guidelines for social distancing. Families were able to attend and extended families watched from a distance virtually. Our graduates were so pleased to return to campus for graduation and many felt the on-campus graduation was the best! |
| CORE FORM, PART III; STATEMENT OF PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS | Athletics and Extra-Curricular Activities ============================= Trinity Hall students are given the opportunity to participate in a variety of athletic teams and extra-curricular activities. Students may choose from the following 16 sports: Basketball, Crew, Cross Country, Field Hockey, Golf, Gymnastics, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Sailing, Soccer, Softball, Spring Track & Field, Swimming, Tennis, Volleyball, and Winter Track & Field. Since inception, our student-athletes have enjoyed increasing success on all of our teams with new teams added each year to accommodate the interests of our girls. For the second year, Trinity Hall athletes earned the prestigious ShopRite Cup, awarded by the NJSIAA to the highest performing school in each division based on points accrued for state tournament performance and season-long sportsmanship. The Monarchs won the ShopRite Cup for the 2019-2020 season. - The Trinity Hall athletic staff organized student-athlete workshops focusing on areas such as preparation, motivation, focus and thought management and adversity and pressure through joint sessions with CBA student-athletes and guest speakers from Rutgers and Empowered Learning Transformation Centers. Trinity Hall alum Caroline Gmelich 17 shared her experiences with overcoming adversity to reach her goals as a swimmer at the University of Virginia. Student Government and Student Activities ================================= Trinity Hall has the following clubs: ACE (Acceptance, Compassion, and Empowerment), Academic Bowl, Art Club, Book Club, Business Club, Chess Club, Chorus, Dance Club, Digital Monarchs, French Club, Glee Club, Horticulture Club (Garden Gurus), Improv Club, Instrumental Group, Literary Magazine, Math Club, Model United Nations, Political Science Club, Pre- Med Club, Robotics Club, The Royal Record (Yearbook), Speech and Debate, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) Club, and The Trinity Hall Tribune (Newspaper). Trinity Hall also has the following student organizations: Liturgical Ministry, Student Ambassadors, Student Annual Fund Committee, and Tech Team. Student Government is divided into five core councils: Academics, Arts, Athletics, and Community Life, SCOPE (Service, Community Outreach, and Prayer). - Student government identified increasing school spirit as a goal for this year. The "Royal Rumble" has helped to maintain and encourage student participation in activities within the community. - The student councils have successfully started the peer tutoring program, written an honor code, arranged fan days for the athletic teams, organized our second flag football tournament (first on campus), held a pie contest, and hosted an Improv night, a trip to Broadway and many more activities and events that provided opportunities for students to demonstrate their Monarch pride! - The Queens Court Companys fall drama Blue Stocking earned nine Count Basie Award nominations, including Outstanding Production, Outstanding Featured Ensemble Group, and Outstanding Lighting Designer. A senior took home a win for Outstanding Costume Design. - The Arts Council hosted the first virtual Evening of Fine Arts which featured performance pieces, instrumental and vocal performances, artwork, and photographs by students. - Trinity Hall faculty and students found many ways to help during the pandemic including sewing and donating masks, donating food to healthcare workers, delivering care packages to local businesses, sending flowers to nursing homes, and donating PPE to nearby hospitals. - The Black Lives Matter and civil unrest provided more reason to address the diversity, equity and inclusion practices. Leaders of ACE incoming and outgoing met with board members, faculty and school administration to discuss what more Trinity Hall can do to ensure respect and voice for all students. |
| CORE FORM, PART III; STATEMENT OF PROGRAM SERVICE ACCOMPLISHMENTS | A member of the Class of 2021 sums it up best: One of my favorite things about Trinity Hall is that we really put into action the idea of girls support girls. We want to bring each other up, we want to raise each other up. As girls were pinned against each other so often in the world, but I really appreciate that Trinity Hall is a community where we can come together and support one another no matter whether your interest is in art,athletics,academics..everyone is understanding and accepting of one another. |
