| Part III, line 28 (continued): | GLOBAL BANJARA BAPTIST MINISTRIES, INDIAANNUAL REPORT 2020 Funds raised by Global Banjara Baptist Ministries International support Christian education and outreach carried out by Global Banjara Baptist Ministries (GBBM) in Hyderabad, India. GBBMs activities in 2020 are summarized as follows. The year 2020 has been a very rough year to all of us at GBBM & Alethieia Banjara School (ABS) due to the pandemic. In spite of this devastating situation, the Lord God has been faithful in leading and using us as an organization for His Kingdom work throughout the year. Though strict pandemic restrictions and lockdowns were imposed in India, all of our committed and brave staff members continued to serve the Lord by visiting families, providing encouragement to patients who tested positive for the Corona virus, supplying groceries to the poor and the needy, and being with people when they needed someone to be with them. I. Relief Program:Due to the pandemic of COVID-19, the government of India imposed a sudden lockdown of all transportation, offices, factories, workshops, and even markets. This affected not only the common man, but also the poor and daily-wage earners badly. We serve mostly in villages, so seeing the lives of poor people, GBBM had responded to their needs. GBBM requested special permission from the State Police Department to travel to the villages we minister in to provide essential goods like 25kg of rice, 1 litre of cooking oil, 3kg of onions, 1kg of tamarind, 5kg of vegetables, necessary spices to make curries, soaps and detergents. We helped at least 2,500 families in the GBBM area. People were very grateful for the timely help. II. School Project - Aletheia Banjara SchoolVision StatementTo develop passionate leaders who are adequately equipped academically, socially, physically, and spiritually to influence the world for Christ.Mission StatementAletheia Banjara School offers Christ-centered education in a nurturing atmosphere which enables its students to develop their talents to their fullest potential for service in all areas of God's Kingdom. We know that every individual student is a unique image bearer of God, and we don't let any of them fall through the cracks. Our students thrive here both in the classroom and in many extra-curricular activities. Aletheia Banjara School is a landmark in Gurrapu Thanda and was inaugurated in July, 2009. Pastor K. Srinivas Naik was born in Gurrapu Thanda where there was no school. He had to go to a school far away from his house. Pastor Naik was a recipient of a Government Merit Scholarship, which enabled him to join a reputed Government Residential School in Hyderabad. He successfully completed the 10th Grade. He desired to become an engineer after completing the Pre-University Course. During his study, Pastor Naik met with a Christian family who supported his studies and introduced him to church and ultimately lead him to accept Jesus Christ and become a Christian. Pastor Naik did not forget his past and fellow Banjara children who neither had proper education nor were aware of the truth that Jesus Christ is the savior. The Banjara were engrossed in superstitions and animistic beliefs. They were illiterate, nomadic tribes, very backward and economically weak. He realized that it was all because of lack of education that the community remained down-trodden. Pastor Srinivas Naiks association with Global Banjara Baptist Ministries (GBBM) helped him draw their attention to this remote village. GBBM felt that education would be a powerful tool for the economic and social uplift of the community, and more importantly it would enable them to reason and to understand the Gospel. With a clear vision from God, and unflinching faith in Him, GBBM laid the foundation stone for its first school on 4 Dec 2005 at Gurrapu Thanda. ABS has successfully completed eleven academic years and is in the middle of its twelfth year. The School has introduced many unique features for its students, which no other school in the district has. These are apart from the regular activities that a school should have. Let us briefly discuss some of these features. The school continued in 2020 only until March when the government implemented a lockdown for the rest of the calendar year. As usual, ABS encouraged education for girls; emphasizing English; taking high school students on educational tours; conducting science fairs; conducting competitions in literary activities; teaching students how to maintain health and hygiene; providing safe drinking water, providing a power-packed drink at 10:10 AM & nutritious mid-day meal for lunch; mentoring through Character Building classes; promoting eco-friendly environment by planting thousands of trees in the locality; observed Indian Republic Day, Independence Day, Teachers Day, Children's Day, Christmas Day and many other special days. Boarding facilitiesAt present, we have 130 boarders in the School. They are being accommodated in classrooms and sleeping on the floors. Due to continuous drought in the region, parents of the students were constrained to put their children in boarding schools in order to migrate to other places in search of livelihood. To arrest this trend, ABS would like to provide boarding facilities to at least 200 students. ABS is looking for donors to provide 100 2-tier cots (beds) and 200 mattresses. Construction of Teachers QuartersAn amount of $20,000 was granted against the Water Melon Project for construction of Teachers Quarters at ABS in 2016. We have laid the roof for the first floor for four sleeping quarters. We still need $25,000 to complete the construction of the first floor. We needed to finish construction of at least the first floor as soon as possible to attract better teachers to join ABS. We are praying and waiting on God to provide funds for last four years. III. HealthMedical Camp at ABS was conducted as part of an annual medical screening of all students at Aletheia. General checkups, eye tests, ear cleaning, and dental checkups were provided to every student. Medical & Awareness Camps were conducted in several regions where GBBM is active in ministry. HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns helped many victims to get treatment and counseling. Thirty (30) individuals are receiving regular medicines for HIV/AIDS. Supply of Vitamin D3GBBM has supplied Vitamin D3 60K to all our volunteers from each village, to missionaries, and to teaching and non-teaching staff. This is helping us develop immunity and protect ourselves against Covid-19. IV. Farmers TrainingMr. C. V. Abraham, one of the Board Members of GBBM India, has been a great blessing to the small and uneducated farmers. Seminars, field visits and help via telephone were provided to over 70 Banjara farmers of two regions. V. Church Planting:As in the past few years, the Global Banjara Baptist Ministries (GBBM) efforts to win souls from the Banjara Community is becoming more and more challenging. We continue in our efforts despite these growing challenges. Christmas Celebrations:Staff Christmas, regional Christmas celebrations, United Banjara Christmas celebrations for Banjara Pastors and families were conducted under restrictions of Covid-19. Christmas Party Clubs: Christmas Party Clubs were conducted with the help of Child Evangelism Fellowship (India), an international organization that is 83 years old. Over 15,000 children participated in this program from over three hundred villages. The Christmas Story was shared with all of the children. Snacks and refreshments were served. VI. On-going Training for Rural LeadersGBBM is striving to equip the pastors, evangelists, Church planters and leaders of numerous village churches with various levels of training and imparting practical knowledge to them. Several teams and individuals visited India during the reporting period include:(1) Under the leadership of Mr. Larry O'Malley, along with Mr. Russell Daws, A Team from Harvest Church Memphis has visited us during the second week of March, 2020. Over 80 leaders from various churches had attended.(2) Three friends from Europe visited our school and spent three weeks with us. They taught English grammar and shared stories of their countries. |
