| Form 990, Part III, Line 4a: Community Outreach Programs (continued) | Diversity Grants - This grant program, established in 2017, supports educational, community service, or outreach projects or programs with a diversity focus. FBA Chapters, Sections, Divisions and Members are encouraged to participate. This grant was designed to address an ongoing need within local communities. Sponsorship of FBA National Community Outreach Project- This program is a defining legal education community outreach program designed to bring students a hands-on learning experience and empower communities. The program is an initiative for FBA chapters to work with their local courts in order to make an impact within communities across the nation. The Foundation of the Federal Bar Association will provide funding for participating chapters and sections to conduct community outreach programs with the local federal courts. Planned events included "schoolhouse to courthouse" events for middle school and high school students to observe courtroom proceedings; high school mock trials, tours of various agencies, and the opportunities to observe live court proceedings. |
| Form 990, Part III, Line 4b: Awards and Recognition (continued) | Ilene and Michael Shaw Public Service Award- This award is designed to assist and encourage FBA chapters in providing service to their communities. The Foundation provides $5,000 in needed funds to continue worthwhile efforts and/or provides seed money to plan and implement public service programs. Ilene and Michael Shaw Younger Lawyer Public Service Grant - This $5,000 grant enables FBA chapters to provide service to the public through the development and implementation of public service projects and pro-bono law-related services. In order to encourage an increased and continued commitment to public service responsibility by young lawyers, these projects must be administered under the auspices of a chapter Younger Lawyers Committee. Civics Essay Contest: In honor of the 100th anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment, the Federal Bar Association invited middle and high school students to consider why the right to vote is still important. The topic of this year's contest was "The 19th Amendment turns 100: Why is the right to vote still important?" More than 250 Middle School and High School students from around the country competed 2020 Civics Essay Contest. The Fellows program was established in 2001 to provide recognition to individuals who have demonstrated exceptional commitment to and leadership within both the Federal Bar Association and the legal community. Each Fellow makes a personal commitment to financially support the work of the Foundation. These charitable contributions support the Foundation's many programs and initiatives, including Chapter Community Outreach Grants, scholarships, research, education and awards. Centennial Fund- The Federal Bar Association turned 100 on January 5, 2020. In honor of this incredible milestone the Foundation awarded a grant to the Association Centennial Celebration educational activities and publication of the Centennial Book. |
| Form 990, Part III, Line 4c: Scholarships (continued) | Kintner Public Service Scholarship- The Public Service Scholarship provides $5,000 as assistance to a graduating high school senior planning to attend a four-year college or university. At least one of the parents (or guardians) of the student must be a current federal government attorney or federal judge and member of the Federal Bar Association. The Robert A. McNew Law Student Scholarship promotes the practice of federal law by awarding a scholarship of $5,000 to a Federal Bar Association law student associate member attending an ABA accredited law school. The Dr. J. Clay Smith Jr. Scholarship aims to promote diversity in the legal profession and to encourage racial and ethnic minority students to pursue a legal education and complete law school. The Foundation of the FBA awards a $15,000 scholarship to a first-year law student, disbursed over three years of the student's enrollment at an ABA-accredited law school. |
