THESE SYSTEMS ARE INCORPORATED INTO LESSON PLANNING AND PLACE-BASED LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES FOR THE STUDENTS. IN TOTAL, WE HAVE HAD 133 STUDENTS GRADUATE 10TH GRADE FROM KVS, AN 87% GRADUATION RATE. AT THE START OF 2020, WE OPENED DOORS TO FOUR NEW LARGE CLASSROOMS ACCOMMODATING OUR "PLUS TWO" PROGRAM, A DESIGNATED FUTURES CENTER, COUNSELING CENTER, HEALTH AND WELLNESS TEAM SPACE, AN IT ROOM, AND OUTDOOR MEETING AREAS. THE STUDENTS WERE FINALLY ABLE TO SPREAD OUT AND ENJOY THEIR NEW LOCATION NESTLED AMONGST OUR VOCATIONAL FARM WHILE OUR SCHOOL WAS OPEN. AFTER CLOSING OUR SCHOOL ON MARCH 19TH DUE TO COVID, KOPILA VALLEY SCHOOL IMPLEMENTED A NEW DISTANCE LEARNING APPROACH TO ENSURE CONTINUOUS LEARNING FOR OUR STUDENTS. THE PROGRAM HAD THREE MAIN GOALS: 1) KEEP FAMILIES SAFE; 2) EQUITABLE DISTRIBUTION OF HIGH QUALITY LEARNING MATERIALS; AND 3) CONTINUOUS LEARNING AND ADAPTING OUR APPROACH AS NEEDED. |

IN EARLY 2020, 44 WOMEN COMPLETED OUR BUSINESS TRAINING PROGRAM AND WE CELEBRATED THE GRADUATION OF 30 WOMEN, 12 IN WEAVING AND 18 IN BEAUTY PARLOR. AFTER MARCH, THE PANDEMIC NECESSITATED THAT WE PAUSE OUR TRAININGS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR. WE USED THIS TIME TO PREPARE FOR NEXT YEAR'S PROGRAMS WHILE MONITORING THE HEALTH AND WELLBEING OF PAST GRADUATES. THE WOMEN'S CENTER STAFF CONDUCTED REGULAR CHECK-IN PHONE CALLS TO ASSESS NEEDS AND WELLBEING WITH THE WOMEN'S CENTER COMMUNITY AND ALL PAST AND PRESENT PARTICIPANTS WERE INVITED TO TAKE PART IN OUR FOOD BANK AND COUNSELING PROGRAMS. |
